đź“‹ Description
- • OpenAI is at the forefront of developing artificial intelligence that benefits humanity, and the Intelligence and Investigations team plays a critical role in ensuring its safe and responsible deployment. Within this team, the Strategic Intelligence & Analysis (SIA) group is dedicated to providing essential safety intelligence by meticulously monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting real-world abuse, geopolitical risks, and strategic threats. Our proactive efforts are instrumental in informing critical safety mitigations, guiding product development decisions, and fostering robust internal and external partnerships, all of which are vital for the secure and responsible application of OpenAI’s advanced AI tools across various critical sectors.
- • In this pivotal role, you will serve as a Data Visualization Analyst, tasked with transforming complex intelligence and forecast outputs into clear, compelling, and interactive visual narratives. Your primary responsibility will be to design and construct the essential dashboards, maps, and visual frameworks that OpenAI’s leadership and key partners will rely upon to gain a comprehensive understanding of emerging risks, their evolution over time, and the efficacy of implemented mitigation strategies. This role demands a unique blend of data visualization expertise, a strong understanding of forecasting methodologies, and exceptional visual design skills to create intuitive “front doors” into our intricate risk landscape.
- • You will be responsible for developing interactive views that illuminate safety and abuse patterns, track significant geopolitical developments, and monitor shifts in market dynamics across diverse regions and complex supply chains. This will involve close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, forecasters, investigators, data scientists, and policy experts. Your work will bridge the gap between noisy, multi-source intelligence inputs and actionable visual products that directly influence strategic priorities and resource allocation.
- • Key responsibilities include designing and building sophisticated dashboards and interactive visualizations to meticulously track: emerging safety and abuse risks across all of OpenAI’s products and various geographical regions; critical geopolitical developments that significantly impact OpenAI’s overall risk posture; and key abuse cases and incident trends, leveraging both structured and unstructured data sources. You will develop dynamic and interactive risk views, such as prioritization heat maps for complex safety and abuse scenarios, comprehensive “emerging risks” boards with intuitive drill-down capabilities for in-depth analysis, and forward-looking forecast views that illustrate risk trajectories and enable clear scenario comparisons over extended periods.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves partnering closely with analysts and investigators to translate raw narrative intelligence, detailed case studies, and open-source intelligence (OSINT) into accessible and impactful visual formats. You will play a key role in standardizing the methods by which we visualize incidents, key metrics, coordinated campaigns, and distinct risk clusters, ensuring consistency and clarity across the organization. Furthermore, you will be expected to iterate rapidly on visual prototypes, responding adeptly to the dynamic nature of ongoing investigations or the emergence of unforeseen crises.
- • Collaboration extends to working with data science, Safety Systems, Integrity, Global Affairs, and Product teams to ensure seamless data ingestion and alignment from a multitude of internal systems and external data sources. Your efforts will guarantee that visualizations are not only accurate and timely but also consistently aligned with existing organizational metrics and taxonomies. You will build views that are directly applicable and highly effective in leadership reviews, safety council meetings, and partner briefings, facilitating informed decision-making.
- • You will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining a definitive visual “source of truth” for critical information, including top strategic risk themes and their temporal evolution, cross-geography views (e.g., markets, supply chains, infrastructure) for comprehensive safety and geopolitical risk assessment, and key mitigations and their designated owners linked to specific risk categories or geographical regions. Additionally, you will create standardized templates, comprehensive style guides, and reusable visual components, empowering the team to rapidly produce consistent, high-quality visual materials, including dashboards, concise one-pagers, workshop materials, and executive review documents.
- • This role requires a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for enhanced data visualization and storytelling to proactively address potential risks and inform strategic decisions, ensuring OpenAI continues to lead in the responsible development and deployment of AI.
