- • The Database Administrator at Calyx Institute Inc. plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of database systems that support clinical research initiatives, directly enabling faster delivery of medical treatments to market by maintaining the data infrastructure that powers Perceptive’s mission in biopharmaceutical innovation.
- • This remote position based in India requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who will manage MS SQL Server environments predominantly in cloud (Azure) settings, while also supporting hybrid and on-premises deployments, ensuring data integrity, availability, and compliance across evolving technological landscapes.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining database systems; applying technical skills to follow operational procedures; using infrastructure monitoring tools to collect performance statistics; assisting in planning and executing routine maintenance and installation tasks in virtualized environments; implementing scheduled maintenance activities; configuring tools for provisioning, testing, and deployment; identifying and resolving operational issues; producing routine reports and suggesting improvements to specialists or managers.
- • The role involves contributing to release and deployment processes by assessing and planning release packages, supporting release scheduling, communicating progress to stakeholders, participating in post-release reviews, applying rollback-capable release procedures, and using automation tools as directed.
- • The Database Administrator works closely with project teams to ensure deliverables meet service acceptance criteria, evaluates project outputs against defined standards, reviews new system software and updates, assists in tailoring system software to service objectives, supports installation and testing of new versions, investigates service problems, and maintains operational documentation.
- • Additional duties include following network problem resolution procedures, using network management tools for performance statistics, performing routine network maintenance, assisting in system installation and decommissioning projects with customer communication, applying quality plans under supervision, monitoring installations for effectiveness, monitoring emerging technologies for risks and opportunities, promoting correct use of agreed methods and tools, applying selected methods per organizational standards, contributing to tool effectiveness reviews, developing and maintaining database procedures and documentation, using database administration tools (including automation), applying standards for database definition, security, and integrity, installing and upgrading database software with configuration records, monitoring database activity and resource usage, escalating issues as needed, and contributing to performance tuning and capacity planning.
- • The role also requires carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested, demonstrating flexibility and initiative in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with hands-on experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server databases
- • Working knowledge of Oracle database administration and experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and related cloud-based services
- • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools (e.g., Redgate, Veeam, native tools), understanding of database security and compliance standards, and knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)
- • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience); Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) and ITIL Foundation certification preferred
