📋 Description

• Design and develop Abridge’s design system from the ground up, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and expressive to unify design and code while maintaining quality and consistency without limiting creativity.
• Build AI-powered tooling that accelerates prototyping, iteration, and exploration by leveraging LLMs and generative systems to redefine how designers work.
• Create workflows, tools, and abstractions that enable designers to move seamlessly from concept to production, reducing friction between design and engineering and empowering non-technical designers to ship real product experiences.
• Set a high bar for craft across design and implementation by sweating details in interaction, motion, performance, and accessibility to ensure all shipped experiences feel thoughtful and cohesive.
• Collaborate deeply with designers, engineers, and product leaders to shape product direction and execution, bringing clarity to ambiguity and helping teams move from idea to reality with speed and precision.
• Operate at the intersection of design systems and AI-enabled tooling, directly shaping both product experiences and the processes used to create them.
• Contribute to evolving a new creative stack where designers are not limited to handing off ideas but are equipped to bring them to life through code and tooling.
• Work within a hybrid model requiring minimum three days per week in the San Francisco office, with occasional collaboration across teams in New York and Pittsburgh.
• Maintain a builder mindset by working through ambiguity, initiating solutions without waiting for perfect specs, and continuously improving systems and workflows.
• Ensure all design and engineering outputs align with Abridge’s mission of empowering clinicians by reducing administrative burden and improving patient care through AI-driven clinical documentation.
• Advocate for accessibility, performance, and user-centered design in every stage of product development, ensuring tools and interfaces serve the needs of healthcare professionals in high-stakes environments.
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives to define standards for AI-native design workflows that are auditable, transparent, and trusted by clinical users.
• Contribute to the cultural and technical evolution of design at Abridge by mentoring peers, sharing knowledge, and raising the bar for creative technologist roles in healthcare AI.

🎯 Requirements

• 5–10+ years of experience spanning design engineering, design systems, creative technologist work, front end engineering, or similar hybrid roles.
• Experience building or contributing to design systems that scale across teams and products.
• Fluency in modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) and experience with frameworks like React.
• A strong product and design sensibility — care deeply about interaction, visual polish, and user experience.
• Experience prototyping ideas quickly, whether in code, design tools, or both.
• Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI/LLM-powered tools and workflows.
