- • As the Director of Accounting at Branch Financial, Inc., you will be instrumental in leading and shaping the accounting department, ensuring the highest standards of financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This pivotal role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, driving financial excellence, and maintaining strict adherence to insurance industry regulations. You will manage a team of four direct reports, fostering their growth and development while collaborating across various departments to safeguard the organization's financial health. Your leadership will be crucial in supporting the system operations and design for both GAAP and Statutory accounting, facilitating critical audits, and championing the development of automated processes within the department. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a rapidly expanding company, where you will be empowered to wear many hats, embracing both strategic oversight and hands-on execution. You will gain invaluable experience by shaping a core function, rapidly acquiring a broad spectrum of skills, and immersing yourself in a dynamic market, ultimately contributing to Branch's mission of making insurance more accessible.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of accounting operations. This includes meticulous management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing processes, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations. You will also be responsible for credit card expense report reconciliation, accurate cash applications, and proactive collections efforts, alongside comprehensive payroll oversight. A key aspect of your role will be leading the development and timely publication of Branch's financial reports, including those for subsidiary entities, ensuring accuracy in GAAP reporting, Statutory reporting, and Investor Reporting. You will serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team, providing critical financial guidance that aligns with and supports the overarching business strategy. Furthermore, you will actively identify and pursue opportunities for both cost savings and revenue enhancement, contributing directly to the company's profitability and growth. Your expertise will be vital in developing and implementing robust financial policies, procedures, and best practices, thereby ensuring that all financial operations are conducted with maximum efficiency and accuracy.
- • You will be tasked with preparing and presenting clear, timely, and accurate financial reports to a diverse range of stakeholders. This includes essential documents such as income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other key financial performance metrics, which will be presented to regulators, departments of insurance, the Board of Directors, investors, and the executive team. As the primary point of contact for all accounting vendors, you will manage relationships with statutory accountants, external bookkeeping services, external tax accountants, and financial statement auditors, ensuring seamless collaboration and adherence to contractual obligations. A significant part of your role will involve cultivating and overseeing cross-departmental relationships, providing exceptional support to all business units as Branch navigates its fast-paced growth trajectory. You will continuously evaluate and enhance existing accounting processes and systems, seeking out innovative ways to improve efficiency, boost accuracy, and increase overall productivity. This includes implementing best practices and leveraging automation wherever feasible to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
- • You will lead and mentor a growing team of analysts and managers who are responsible for the day-to-day accounting and finance operations. This encompasses overseeing bookkeeping, controllership functions, AP/AR processing, expense processing, and financial reporting. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding this team to achieve departmental goals and contribute to the company's financial integrity. This role offers a unique chance to significantly influence the direction and effectiveness of the accounting function within a thriving startup environment. You will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of insurance industry-specific accounting practices and regulations, while also honing your skills in financial strategy, team leadership, and process improvement. The experience gained here will be invaluable for career advancement, providing a comprehensive foundation in financial management within a high-growth, innovative company.
- • The team at Branch is dedicated to fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment where innovation and mutual support are paramount. Branch is committed to making insurance more accessible through technology and data-driven solutions, and this ethos extends to its internal culture. As a remote-first company, Branch values flexibility and empowers its employees to work from locations where they are most productive, while also offering opportunities for in-person connection at its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, and other office locations.
