  • • Lead the enterprise-wide AI and automation strategy aligned to Medicare Advantage priorities, including Stars ratings, risk adjustment, payment accuracy, prior authorization, clinical quality, and member experience.
  • • Define and maintain a multi-year AI and automation roadmap that identifies high-ROI use cases to create durable competitive advantage in partnership with C-suite and senior leaders.
  • • Build, lead, and retain a diverse, high-performing team of AI/ML engineers and automation engineers, setting clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans to cultivate future technical leaders.
  • • Design and implement enterprise-grade intelligent automation solutions using RPA (e.g., UiPath, Power Automate), workflow orchestration, and process intelligence across Claims, Utilization Management, Provider Operations, and Member Services.
  • • Establish governance standards for automation development, documentation, change management, scalability, and maintainability to ensure reliable and auditable systems.
  • • Own the selection, adoption, and integration of AI/ML platforms, cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), and automation tools with DTS data platforms and security controls.
  • • Define and enforce engineering best practices including CI/CD, MLOps, testing, observability, and documentation to improve reliability and time-to-value across all AI and automation initiatives.
  • • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data Engineering, Clinical Operations, Finance, Compliance, and Security to translate business requirements into technical solutions and track measurable outcomes such as cycle time reduction, accuracy improvement, and cost-to-serve.
  • • Communicate AI and automation strategy, progress, and ROI regularly to senior executives and governance bodies using data-driven narratives and business impact metrics.
  • • Embed responsible AI practices by collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy to ensure adherence to CMS, HIPAA, and internal governance standards, including bias detection, model explainability, auditability, and change control.
  • • Manage the operating budget for AI & Automation Engineering, including cloud spend, third-party platforms, and vendor relationships, ensuring investments maximize ROI and reflect labor market realities.
  • • Supervise full lifecycle HR functions for the team: interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisals, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving employee complaints in compliance with organizational policies and laws.
  • • Drive the adoption of generative AI (LLMs, RAG pipelines), agentic frameworks, and NLP technologies to enhance care quality and operational efficiency in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
  • • Ensure all AI systems are designed with healthcare data standards in mind, including HL7 FHIR, ICD-10/CPT, and DICOM, where applicable.
  • • Scale an AI or automation engineering function from early-stage development to enterprise maturity with documented processes and institutional knowledge.
  • • Translate complex technical concepts into clear executive narratives to influence senior decision-making and secure buy-in from non-technical stakeholders.
  • • Maintain expertise in cloud AI platform governance (AWS SageMaker, Azure AI, Google Vertex AI, Databricks) and lead platform architecture decisions at the department level.
  • • Promote a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and accountability within the AI and automation engineering team.
  • • Evaluate and manage external vendor partnerships to ensure alignment with organizational goals, cost efficiency, and technological innovation.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 8–12 years of progressive experience in software engineering, data science, or AI/ML roles, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or director-level position
  • • Proven track record of delivering production-grade AI/ML systems and large-scale automation solutions in a regulated or enterprise environment
  • • Demonstrated experience leading and scaling multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and career development
  • • Deep expertise in machine learning, NLP, generative AI (LLMs, RAG pipelines), agentic frameworks, and intelligent process automation (RPA and orchestration)
  • • Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and technology platform decisions at a department or function level
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer & Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field; equivalent combination of education and demonstrated senior leadership experience acceptable
