Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As Director of Cloud and Engineering Enablement at NETGEAR, you will lead the strategic transformation of the company’s cloud platform into a modern, automation-first, high-performance engineering ecosystem that serves both Consumer and Enterprise divisions, directly enabling engineering teams to innovate faster, operate more reliably, and deliver secure, scalable solutions at scale.
- • You will report to the VP of Engineering and be based in NETGEAR’s European Headquarters in Cork, Ireland, operating under a hybrid model (3 days on-site), where you will shape culture, drive operational excellence, and remove systemic friction that hinders engineering velocity and reliability.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include building and evolving a unified cloud platform using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), eliminating manual infrastructure and deployment processes, and enabling engineers to self-serve infrastructure, deployments, and production monitoring through standardized CI/CD pipelines and release practices.
- • You will establish and scale a strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) culture by defining SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets across shared services, reducing production incidents and MTTR, driving disciplined incident response, and advancing observability maturity — with Datadog experience being a distinct advantage — while reducing operational toil through automation.
- • You will institutionalize DORA metrics as a core performance discipline, improving deployment frequency, reducing lead time for changes, lowering change failure rate through automation and test rigor, increasing release confidence, and providing transparent engineering performance reporting to leadership to treat engineering performance as measurable, improvable, and strategic.
- • You will champion the adoption of AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Cloud Code), define responsible usage guardrails, measure AI’s impact on productivity and quality, and position AI as a force multiplier — not an experiment — across engineering teams.
- • You will drive modern test automation across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, implement shift-left testing principles, reduce manual regression, embed production observability into quality validation, and raise engineering discipline around release confidence.
- • You will define cloud architectural standards and guardrails to prevent service sprawl and architectural drift, ensure scalable and cost-efficient cloud design aligned with long-term product and business strategy, and support both enterprise-grade and high-scale consumer use cases.
- • You will be accountable for the engineering and reliability of Cloud Shared Services, including account management, subscription and Stripe billing systems, AWS IoT agents and device connectivity infrastructure, and core cloud API services powering mobile, web, and device ecosystems.
- • You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance stakeholders to align cloud enablement initiatives with business goals, ensuring revenue-critical systems are protected while enabling innovation and operational discipline.
- • You will foster a culture of ownership, operational discipline, and continuous improvement, moving NETGEAR from manual, reactive processes toward self-service infrastructure, engineered reliability, and AI-enabled development that empowers engineers to operate at their highest potential.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12+ years of engineering experience with significant cloud leadership responsibility, including proven success transforming engineering teams into high-performing organizations.
- • Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and experience operating and scaling cloud platforms, with AWS being highly advantageous.
- • Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and observability, including experience implementing enterprise platforms like Datadog and improving DORA metrics in production environments.
- • Demonstrated experience leading AI tooling adoption across engineering teams and operating revenue-critical systems at scale, with excellent stakeholder management across Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Hybrid working model (3 days on-site in Cork) offering flexibility and collaboration.
- • Opportunity to lead a strategic, culture-shaping transformation at a global leader in connectivity and cybersecurity.
- • Access to cutting-edge cloud technologies, AI development tools, and observability platforms.
- • Clear path to impact engineering velocity, reliability, and innovation across Consumer and Enterprise divisions.
- • Supportive, performance-driven culture aligned with NETGEAR’s values: Dare to Transform, Connect and Delight, Communicate Courageously, Win It Together.
