- • As Director of Data Science & Machine Learning at Almedia Inc., you will lead the technical vision and execution of machine learning initiatives that power the company’s innovative user engagement and advertising platform, directly contributing to Almedia’s mission of becoming Europe’s next bootstrapped unicorn by scaling impactful ML solutions for over 60 million users.
- • You will own the end-to-end ML lifecycle — from identifying high-impact business problems and defining solution strategies to designing, prototyping, deploying, and monitoring production-grade ML systems, ensuring alignment with company goals and technical excellence.
- • Day to day, you will design and ship scalable recommendation systems, pricing models, and ad-targeting algorithms that drive user acquisition and retention for global advertisers, leveraging real-time data and feedback loops to optimize performance.
- • You will begin in a highly hands-on capacity, writing production code, conducting experiments, and iterating rapidly on ML prototypes while establishing best practices in model development, validation, and deployment.
- • A core responsibility will be hiring, mentoring, and growing a small but elite team of ML engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of technical ownership, continuous learning, and high impact.
- • You will elevate the team’s technical standards by defining architecture guidelines, leading code and design reviews, setting MLops practices, and shaping long-term strategy for model governance, scalability, and innovation.
- • You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data teams to translate business objectives into ML roadmaps, ensuring seamless integration of ML features into core products and measuring impact through rigorous experimentation and A/B testing.
- • You will stay current with advancements in ML research — particularly in recommender systems, reinforcement learning, and causal inference — and evaluate their applicability to Almedia’s use cases, driving innovation through proof-of-concepts and tech spikes.
- • You will represent Almedia’s technical leadership externally when relevant, contributing to engineering blogs, speaking at meetups, or engaging with the broader ML community to attract top talent.

🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building and deploying machine learning systems at scale, particularly in recommender systems, advertising, pricing, or related domains.
- • Demonstrated success in zero-to-one ML product development — including prototyping, experimentation, and launching new ML capabilities from scratch in early-stage or startup environments.
- • Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in Python, ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn), and experience with MLops, CI/CD, and production monitoring.
- • Track record of hiring, mentoring, and leading high-performing technical teams in fast-paced, ownership-driven cultures.
- • Experience working in profitable, high-growth startups where technical decisions have direct business impact.
