📋 Description

• As the Director of Engineering for Infrastructure at Zapier, you will lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for building, supporting, and evolving the company’s core services, platforms, and infrastructure, directly enabling product teams to move faster and build higher-quality products.
• You will shape the vision, strategy, and roadmap for platform engineering as a strategic priority, defining how the organization operates, establishing accountability mechanisms, and building systems and processes from the ground up in a 0-to-1 environment.
• You will drive the AI transformation of infrastructure and developer tooling, re-architecting workflows to minimize reactive work, implementing AI-powered automation, and setting the pace for AI adoption across teams by modeling expected behaviors and turning experiments into durable capabilities.
• You will focus on developer experience and velocity by unblocking software delivery pain points, establishing data-driven metrics for quality and delivery, and ensuring stakeholders understand tradeoffs and results to build trust in the platform.
• You will partner with service-owning teams to ensure reliability and uptime of core infrastructure, step in during major incidents as a senior leader, and grow high-performing teams by recruiting, mentoring, and developing the next generation of engineering leaders through clear growth paths and feedback.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience building internal infrastructure platforms that engineering teams love to use, with a track record of treating internal platforms as products through adoption measurement, feedback loops, and iteration based on developer needs.
• Demonstrated success leading teams responsible for cloud, database, and event infrastructure, including scaling platform engineering organizations and managing managers and technical leaders.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and orchestration tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Codex), with a concrete vision for how AI reshapes infrastructure and developer tooling, and evidence of implementing AI-first thinking to transform work and quantify impact.
• Strong background in driving developer velocity and quality through data-driven approaches, establishing metrics for engineering velocity and quality, and making tradeoffs between velocity, cost, and functionality while reducing KTLO and reactive work.
• Exceptional communication and mentorship skills, with a passion for developing engineers and leaders, proactively sharing vision and strategy across engineering and broader teams using async and sync communication effectively.
