Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the technical vision and execution for two mission-critical products—Network for Good and Salsa—that together enable more than 16,000 nonprofits and 50 % of the Fortune 100 to raise and distribute billions of dollars for social good every year.
  • • Act as the primary engineering partner to Product, Customer Support, and Sales, translating raw customer pain points into a prioritized, AI-forward roadmap that balances near-term revenue protection with long-term platform scalability.
  • • Spend up to 40 % of your week writing or reviewing Ruby, Java, SQL, and infrastructure-as-code so you can set—and continuously raise—the quality bar for a 10-person, US-India engineering squad.
  • • Champion pragmatic AI adoption: run rapid experiments that surface donor-propensity models, auto-segmentation for email campaigns, or intelligent grant recommendations, then scale the winners into production features that demonstrably lift giving rates.
  • • Architect and refactor for resilience in an AWS stack that spans Rails monoliths, Java micro-services, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQS, Lambda, and CloudFormation; ensure every design decision keeps PCI, SOC-2, and GDPR obligations front-of-mind.
  • • Establish measurable SLAs and SLOs for a platform that processes millions of donations during year-end giving spikes; lead blameless post-mortems and turn incidents into durable learning artifacts.
  • • Coach, mentor, and performance-manage a multicultural team across time zones; conduct quarterly growth check-ins, craft individual development plans, and build succession depth so the organization can scale to 3 % of US GDP by 2033.
  • • Drive quarterly OKR cycles that tie engineering output directly to customer outcomes—e.g., “reduce donor checkout abandonment by 15 %” or “cut onboarding time for new nonprofits from 14 days to 7 days.”
  • • Institutionalize continuous delivery: own the build-deploy-test pipeline, champion trunk-based development, and ensure every PR is paired with automated tests and a rollback plan.
  • • Collaborate with Finance and Revenue Operations to model cloud-spend efficiency; negotiate reserved-instance purchases and adopt Graviton or Spot strategies that cut infra cost per transaction by double digits.
  • • Evangelize engineering wins internally and externally: publish architecture blogs, speak at AWS re:Invent or NTC, and showcase how AI + social-good tech can unlock an incremental $573 billion in annual impact.
  • • Foster an inclusive culture where psychological safety, code-review kindness, and data-driven decisions are non-negotiables; actively recruit and retain under-represented groups in tech.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading distributed teams (US + India) in a player-coach capacity.
  • • Production-grade expertise in AWS and at least one of the following pairs: Ruby on Rails + PostgreSQL OR Java + MySQL; ability to dive deep into query plans, JVM tuning, or Rails performance profiling.
  • • Demonstrated success shipping AI/ML features that measurably improved user experience or business KPIs—e.g., recommendation engines, predictive analytics, or NLP-driven support bots.
  • • Proven track record of partnering with Product Management to translate customer needs into technical requirements and delivering them via Agile/Scrum or Kanban at scale.
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical executives and inspire engineers across cultures and time zones.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Remote-first culture with flexible hours and a $1,000 annual stipend for home-office setup or co-working memberships.
  • • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents at no premium cost to the employee, plus a tax-advantaged HSA with company seed money.
  • • 20 days PTO, 10 paid holidays, and a company-wide week off at year-end; additional paid volunteer days to support the causes you love.
  • • Annual professional-development budget of $3,500 for conferences, certifications, or courses, plus paid access to O’Reilly, Pluralsight, and internal AI learning tracks.
