  • • The Director, Software Engineering – UK Site Lead is responsible for leading the UK software engineering organization, driving execution of critical business priorities, and ensuring alignment with global engineering strategy.
  • • This role provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple teams, delivering high-impact software solutions that support clinical, product, and research milestones.
  • • The position translates enterprise strategy into functional execution, drives complex cross-functional initiatives, and ensures organizational effectiveness across the UK software footprint.
  • • You will normally be working a hybrid of remote and office based, with no less than 3 days in the office; when you are working out of our London office, you will be based at 210 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DA, in line with company needs.
  • • GRAIL’s mission is to detect cancer early, when it can be cured, by pioneering new technologies using next-generation sequencing, population-scale clinical studies, and state-of-the-art computer science and data science.

  • • As UK Site Lead, you will play a key role in scaling and strengthening GRAIL’s engineering presence in the UK, fostering collaboration across global teams.
  • • You will mentor and develop engineering leaders and individual contributors, promoting technical excellence and a culture of innovation.
  • • You will partner with product, clinical, and research stakeholders to ensure software delivery aligns with scientific and business goals.
  • • You will oversee software development lifecycles, ensuring quality, scalability, and timely delivery of systems that support early cancer detection efforts.

  • • Proven experience leading software engineering teams at scale, preferably in a healthcare, biotech, or regulated technology environment.
  • • Strong background in software architecture, development lifecycle management, and engineering best practices.
  • • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional initiatives and align technical execution with business strategy.
  • • Experience managing hybrid or distributed teams, with a track record of fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • • Deep understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, DevOps, and agile methodologies.
