- • The ED Access Representative plays a vital role in ensuring smooth and efficient patient flow within the Emergency Department at the University of Rochester, directly supporting the institution’s commitment to Meliora – Ever Better by upholding values of equity, respect, and accountability in every patient interaction.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting and verifying demographic and financial information, initiating medical and financial records, managing patient tracking systems, correcting registration and billing errors, triaging patient calls, supporting clinical staff with administrative tasks, providing training as a preceptor, and ensuring accurate insurance verification and co-pay collection prior to discharge.
- • The role is part of the Emergency Department at Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH), a key clinical unit within the University of Rochester Medical Center, where teamwork, patient-centered care, and operational excellence are prioritized to serve a diverse community.
- • In this role, the individual will develop strong administrative and customer service skills, gain familiarity with healthcare registration systems and medical terminology, build experience in training and mentoring peers, and contribute to improving departmental efficiency and patient satisfaction—foundational experience for growth in healthcare operations or administration.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • One year of related work experience in an administrative office or customer service setting
- • Demonstrated ability to word process documents and enter data into a database
