  • • The Employee Engagement and Internal Communications Director is responsible for executing internal communications strategies and employee engagement initiatives that strengthen connection, clarity, and culture across the organization. This role ensures employees are informed, engaged, and connected to the company’s mission, values, and strategic priorities through clear, compelling, and consistent communication.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include executing internal communications strategies across functions and locations, developing and managing integrated communications plans tied to culture, strategy, and performance, overseeing internal content creation and channel management, designing and implementing engagement programs, supporting executive communications, managing surveys and feedback tools, partnering with HR and Corporate Communications, driving cross-functional coordination, co-managing vendors and budgets, supporting engagement measurement efforts, co-leading employee-facing aspects of CSR and volunteer programs, and supporting change communications.
  • • The role reports to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and Employee Engagement at Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd., a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Japan with U.S. operations (Sumitomo Pharma America, Inc.) focused on oncology, urology, women’s health, rare diseases, cell & gene therapies, and CNS. The company is committed to accelerating discovery and bringing novel therapies to patients through a diverse pipeline and marketed products.
  • • In this role, the individual can develop expertise in strategic internal communications and employee engagement within a highly regulated healthcare environment, lead culture-building initiatives at a global scale, influence organizational alignment through data-informed storytelling, and grow leadership capabilities by partnering with executive and cross-functional teams to shape employee experience and organizational culture.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in liberal arts/English, Communications, or related discipline preferred
  • • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, biotech or pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • • Experience managing internal communications and employee engagement
  • • Proven ability to develop and execute integrated communications and engagement strategies that support business objectives and culture
  • • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders
  • • Experience using data and employee insights to inform plans and decision making
  • • Experience in highly regulated, healthcare, biotech, or pharmaceutical environments preferred
  • • Exceptional written, verbal, and storytelling skills across multiple communication formats
  • • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive information
  • • Analytical mindset with experience translating engagement data into action
  • • Project management and prioritization skills across multiple concurrent initiatives
  • • Collaborative style with strong relationship-building abilities

  • • Base salary range of $185,800.00 - $232,200.00
  • • Opportunity for merit-based salary increases
