- • Lead a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining Airwallex’s international payments platform, with direct accountability for team performance, goal setting, and individual development plans.
- • Collaborate closely with product managers and key stakeholders to define the product roadmap, prioritize engineering initiatives, and deliver incremental value to production with high velocity and quality.
- • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful services and integration components within a backend microservices architecture, ensuring seamless interaction with React frontend systems.
- • Conduct architectural reviews for current and upcoming solutions to ensure scalability, reliability, and alignment with business objectives.
- • Proactively identify and address technical debt to improve system stability, reduce mean time to detect (MTTD), and reduce mean time to resolve (MTTR).
- • Contribute to the hiring, onboarding, training, and long-term development of engineering talent within the team.
- • Build and enhance the next-generation Payment Acceptance infrastructure focused on merchant needs, ensuring seamless integration of global payment methods.
- • Work with partner engineering teams as needed to coordinate integrations and resolve cross-functional technical challenges.
- • Gain deep expertise in Visa and Mastercard payment platforms, including their protocols, compliance requirements, and operational workflows.
- • Utilize distributed systems technologies including Kafka for event streaming, Cassandra, Hazelcast, or Oracle Coherence for distributed data storage, and GCP or AWS services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, and CloudFront.
- • Implement and monitor operational tooling including New Relic, StatsD, ELK, Datadog, and Prometheus to ensure system observability and performance.
- • Write and maintain code primarily in Java or Kotlin using Spring / Spring Boot frameworks, with exposure to JavaScript/TypeScript for full-stack collaboration.
- • Operate within a globally distributed team spanning China, the Netherlands, and Singapore, contributing to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.
- • Drive end-to-end ownership of payment system features from concept through deployment, balancing speed with rigor and first-principles thinking.
- • Leverage AI tools to accelerate problem-solving and improve engineering efficiency across the team’s workflows.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on low-latency, distributed systems
- • At least one year of experience managing engineering teams
- • Strong computer science fundamentals and experience designing and building REST APIs
- • Experience with high-volume distributed systems, Kafka event streams, distributed data storage (Cassandra, Hazelcast, Oracle Coherence), and cloud platforms (GCP or AWS)
- • Proficiency in Java or Kotlin using Spring / Spring Boot, with exposure to JavaScript/TypeScript
- • Experience with operational tooling such as New Relic, StatsD, ELK, Datadog, or Prometheus
