📋 Description

• WeTravel is seeking an Engineering Leader for its Platform Team to architect, build, and scale the critical infrastructure, reliability, and developer experience that forms the backbone of all product engineering. This pivotal role is responsible for transforming a small, high-impact squad into a mature function capable of delivering world-class availability, security, and operational excellence, directly supporting the company's ambitious growth from powering $1 billion to $10 billion in annual travel experiences. As a leader reporting directly to the CTO, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical foundation that enables WeTravel to empower travel entrepreneurs globally, moving them away from outdated systems like spreadsheets and emails towards a seamless, modern platform.
• In this dynamic role, your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of critical platform functions. You will architect and meticulously manage our AWS environment, ensuring it is optimized for scalability, cost-efficiency, and future multi-region readiness, while driving the adoption of Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and embracing modern cloud-native practices. A significant focus will be on expanding WeTravel’s reliability program from its nascent stages, defining key platform Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and enhancing our incident response capabilities using tools like incident.io. You will also be responsible for improving our observability through platforms such as Datadog and Sentry, with a clear objective to drastically reduce Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR) from hours to mere minutes. Furthermore, you will define and own the platform's security posture, actively supporting SOC 2 certification and PCI-DSS compliance efforts, and championing security automation throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). A key aspect of your role will be to cultivate a world-class developer experience by building and refining internal platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and essential tooling, thereby multiplying the impact and efficiency of our product engineers, always championing a philosophy of enabling developers rather than imposing restrictions.
• Beyond infrastructure and developer enablement, you will oversee the internal IT operations, ensuring the team has secure, reliable systems and tools for access management, enabling them to perform at their best. Team leadership is paramount; you will be responsible for growing and mentoring the platform engineering team, actively hiring senior SREs and platform engineers, and setting an exceptionally high bar for operational maturity and engineering craft. Collaborating closely with the CTO and VP of Engineering, you will play a key role in defining the platform roadmap, ensuring it aligns with the company's strategic objectives and future growth trajectory. The team operates with a focus on impact, adapting methodologies based on what proves most effective, and is committed to utilizing the latest hardware and continuously seeking better tools and work methodologies. The current technology stack includes React/ReactNative/TypeScript for the frontend, Ruby on Rails and Python microservices running on Kubernetes for the backend, with databases like MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, and Snowflake, and active engagement with major LLM providers.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience with AWS, containerization, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• 4+ years of experience leading teams, including building, hiring for, and scaling platform teams.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing reliability programs (SLIs/SLOs, on-call, incident management) at scale.
• Experience with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, PCI-DSS) in a SaaS/fintech context.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex infrastructure concepts into clear business impact for leadership.
• Startup or scale-up mindset: pragmatic, hands-on when needed, with a strong bias toward action.
