đź“‹ Description
- • Ambrook is on a mission to empower family-run American businesses, particularly those in agriculture and industry, by enhancing their profitability and resilience. We recognize the immense pressures these operators face, from climate challenges like droughts to escalating input costs and volatile markets. While crucial long-term investments in areas like efficient irrigation and sustainable grazing practices offer clear benefits, they often require significant upfront capital and financial clarity that is difficult to secure with fragmented records and outdated tools. Ambrook is dedicated to revolutionizing the financial infrastructure that these independent operators depend on, replacing cumbersome paperwork and legacy systems with a modern, integrated platform for accounting, banking, invoicing, and spending. Our tools are specifically designed for individuals who prioritize their work in the field over administrative tasks, providing them with the financial insights necessary to make confident investments in their land, operations, and future.
- • As an Engineering Manager at Ambrook, you will play a pivotal role in cultivating excellence across our product development, people management, and process optimization. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to leadership at an organizational level, while simultaneously focusing on hiring, mentoring, and fostering the growth of individual contributors within the engineering team. You will witness the tangible impact of your work directly on independent businesses, moving beyond the scope of large enterprises. You will be instrumental in shaping how a best-in-class engineering team operates, leveraging cutting-edge AI tools and benefiting from the guidance of a leadership team with extensive industry experience.
- • We are seeking a proactive and reliable individual who will take ownership of the entire employee lifecycle for a significant segment of our engineering team. This includes the strategic hiring of senior individual contributors, providing dedicated mentoring and coaching, and effectively managing performance. You will be responsible for imparting best practices in engineering architecture, project leadership, and fostering clear organizational communication. A key aspect of this role involves continuous learning, staying abreast of the evolving software engineering landscape over the next 12+ months, and strategically applying these advancements to our technical instincts and architectural integrity. Furthermore, you will be tasked with improving our EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) leadership layer, enhancing project management hygiene, and driving more effective cross-functional execution.
- • Within your first month, you will immerse yourself within the team, contributing to the development and delivery of a standalone feature. This hands-on experience will provide a deep understanding of our tech stack and the intricacies of the accounting domain. You will also familiarize yourself with Ambrook’s product, review research notes, and study customer discovery interviews to cultivate a strong sense of empathy for the producers we serve. You will assume responsibility for conducting 1:1 meetings, initiating the process of building trust-based relationships with your direct reports. Additionally, you will analyze our existing project management processes to identify immediate opportunities for workflow improvements.
- • By the end of your first three months, you will assume full ownership of hiring and headcount planning for your team, working in close collaboration with the recruiting department to attract top-tier talent. You will partner with Product and Design leadership to influence the product roadmap, ensuring a strategic balance between addressing technical debt and delivering new features. You will guide your team through the execution of a substantial, full-stack initiative, ensuring meticulous project breakdown and transparent stakeholder communication. Crucially, you will define clear career development plans and growth trajectories for each member of your team.
- • Within six months, you will champion a culture of engineering excellence, articulating its value in relation to the needs of our community and the overarching business objectives. You will contribute to scaling the team effectively, potentially managing other managers or high-level leads as the organization expands. Your role will extend to contributing to the long-term technical and organizational strategy of the engineering department. As a testament to our innovative culture, you will also have the opportunity to share your experiences in building a modern, AI-augmented engineering culture by writing for Ambrook’s blog.
- • This role is ideal for someone passionate about building impactful software for real-world businesses, fostering a high-performing team, and contributing to the growth of a mission-driven startup. You will be at the forefront of innovation, helping to shape the future of financial infrastructure for American industries.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2–5+ years of experience in engineering management, coupled with 3–5 years as a high-performing individual contributor.
- • Demonstrated understanding of how software engineering has evolved with AI and a clear vision for its future impact.
- • Proven track record of prioritizing people in problem-solving, with experience in hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent.
- • Deep understanding of software architecture and the ability to guide teams through complex technical decisions.
- • Strong product sense and a genuine excitement for building software that enhances the sustainability and profitability of independent businesses.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity package.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Generous paid time off and holidays.
- • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI tools and shape an innovative engineering culture.
- • Direct impact on the success of family-run American businesses.
- • Professional development and growth opportunities, including mentorship and training.
