đź“‹ Description

  • • As an Engineering Manager at Jerry.ai, you will step into a pivotal role, leading the charge in evolving our critical insurance marketplace automation systems. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact the core functionality of our product, which aims to revolutionize car ownership by simplifying and automating every aspect of the user journey. You will report directly to our co-founder CTO, a testament to the flat hierarchy and direct access to leadership that defines our culture. This role is designed for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, no-red-tape environment, where innovative ideas can be pitched, built, and deployed within days.
  • • The technical challenge ahead is significant and deeply rewarding. While over 80% of Americans rely on their cars as a fundamental necessity, the experience of owning one remains largely unchanged from the 1990s. Shopping for a car, securing insurance, managing repairs – these are all fragmented, complicated, expensive, and time-consuming processes. Jerry.ai is building the first mobile app to consolidate and streamline all these aspects. Our insurance marketplace is the cornerstone of this vision, and our ability to automate the end-to-end shopping experience is our key differentiator. The Marketplace Automation Team, which you will lead, is responsible for the most crucial part of this automation: the 'last mile.' This involves orchestrating complex, multi-step transactions with a multitude of external systems to finalize insurance policy purchases.
  • • The inherent complexity arises from the insurance industry's lack of modern, standardized APIs. Consequently, we have developed custom orchestration layers that navigate intricate internal and external interfaces with extreme precision. This is a high-stakes puzzle involving asynchronous state management and ensuring real-time system reliability. Your primary challenge will be to evolve our current automation systems into a robust, fault-tolerant framework. This new framework must gracefully handle external interface changes, which are frequent and often unpredictable, and scale seamlessly across dozens of new product categories with minimal manual intervention.
  • • You will spend approximately 80% of your time engaged in hands-on technical work. This includes deeply understanding our existing automation systems, which were initially built for speed rather than scalability. Today, they represent a complex web of tightly coupled business logic and database access, making changes risky and failures difficult to debug. Your initial focus, Phase 1, will involve immersing yourself in the code. You'll gain a comprehensive understanding of both the technical intricacies and the business logic of our core product – insurance, a field known for its complexity and the unique, often idiosyncratic, behaviors of different providers.
  • • Following this deep dive, you will lead the incremental refactoring of our existing automation systems. This will involve designing and implementing new architectural standards, best practices, and robust testing methodologies. You will actively pair with engineers on your team, ensuring that the new system is predictable, testable, and maintainable. This hands-on approach ensures that you are not just managing, but actively contributing to the technical direction and quality of the product.
  • • As the architecture stabilizes and matures, Phase 2 will see you shift your focus towards an AI-first approach. You will spearhead the development of the next generation of internal tools, leveraging AI and machine learning to enable us to scale from our current 5 million customers to an ambitious 50 million. This forward-looking aspect of the role offers the chance to innovate and shape the future of our platform.
  • • We pride ourselves on having a stellar team with a very high bar for talent. You will work alongside likeminded peers who are equally passionate, intensely focused, and driven to accomplish significant goals. Many of our Technical Leads and Managers are ex-founders themselves, embodying a 'get your hands dirty' mentality and a passion for solving difficult, real-world problems. This collaborative and high-performing environment is ideal for individuals who are motivated by impact and intellectual challenge.
  • • Furthermore, as a consumer-facing business with over 5 million customers, Jerry.ai has access to a massive volume of customer data. This data spans various behaviors, including driving telematics, shopping patterns, and payment histories, providing invaluable insights that guide our product, technical, and business decisions. You will have the opportunity to leverage this data to inform your architectural decisions and drive innovation.
  • • In summary, this role offers unparalleled ownership, a chance to work with a truly exceptional team, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a product that is fundamentally changing a massive industry. You will be instrumental in building a scalable, reliable, and intelligent automation framework that will power Jerry.ai's growth for years to come.
