- • Masabi is at the forefront of revolutionizing public transport fare payments, enabling millions of journeys worldwide through innovative mobile ticketing and payment solutions. Our Justride platform is a global leader, adopted in over 250 locations, and we’ve forged key partnerships with industry giants like Uber, Moovit, and Transit. We are seeking a dedicated Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team on a fixed-term contract, specifically to cover a maternity leave for a period of 6 to 12 months. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to step into an established team, providing essential leadership continuity, ensuring consistent delivery, and fostering team development throughout this transitional phase. You will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards and positive culture that define Masabi, ensuring our ongoing success in the fare payment revolution.
- • In this hands-on leadership capacity, your primary focus will be to expertly balance the demands of delivery, the nuanced art of people management, and seamless cross-functional collaboration. You will work in close concert with Product Managers, fellow Engineering Managers, and Delivery peers across various regions. Your objective will be to guarantee that your team consistently delivers exceptional, high-quality outcomes that are precisely aligned with overarching product and business objectives. Simultaneously, you will be responsible for nurturing and upholding a strong, supportive, and inclusive team culture where every member feels valued and empowered. This dual focus on technical output and human capital is central to the success of this role and the team.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass owning the complete delivery lifecycle for your team, ensuring that outcomes are not only predictable but also of the highest quality, directly contributing to the achievement of product and business goals. You will actively lead and facilitate all essential delivery rituals, including sprint planning sessions, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings, with a continuous drive to identify and implement improvements in team workflows and processes. A significant part of your role will involve partnering closely with Product Managers to meticulously shape product backlogs, provide clear clarifications on requirements, and collaboratively align on priorities and delivery timelines, ensuring a shared understanding and commitment.
- • Furthermore, you will engage in robust collaboration with other Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and Principal Engineers to guarantee alignment on technical direction, architectural decisions, and comprehensive delivery plans across different engineering functions. Maintaining a high standard of operational excellence will be paramount; this includes ensuring system reliability, effectively managing any incidents that may arise, and refining support processes to be as efficient and effective as possible. You will dedicate time to supporting and developing your team members through regular one-on-one meetings, providing constructive feedback, and engaging in meaningful growth conversations, fostering individual career progression.
- • You will play a crucial role in cultivating an inclusive and supportive team environment where individuals feel psychologically safe to contribute their ideas, take risks, and grow both professionally and personally. This includes proactively helping to manage team performance, engagement levels, and overall well-being, ensuring a stable and productive atmosphere, especially during the maternity cover period. Providing clear and consistent visibility on delivery progress, identifying potential risks, and reporting on key metrics to stakeholders will be a regular expectation, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making across the organization. If required, you will also contribute to the hiring and onboarding processes, further supporting the team’s stability and continuity.
- • About the team and company: Masabi is a company driven by a powerful mission: to make public transit fare payments fair and accessible for everyone. We are a diverse network of innovators from all backgrounds, united by a passion for making a tangible difference in the world. Our culture is built on openness and trust, creating an environment where every individual is empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. We believe in simplifying journeys, removing barriers, and enhancing the daily lives of millions through our technology. We encourage our people to accelerate their careers, recognizing that Masabi is a company on the move and our employees are in the driving seat of our success. Whether you're charting a direct course or exploring new avenues, we are committed to supporting your professional journey.
- • In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in leading an established engineering team within a fast-paced, product-led SaaS environment. You will deepen your understanding of end-to-end delivery ownership, mastering the art of balancing quality, timelines, and stakeholder expectations. Your people leadership skills will be honed through active coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members' growth. You will enhance your ability to communicate complex technical and non-technical information clearly and confidently to diverse audiences, and you will become adept at navigating cross-team and cross-timezone dynamics, building strong, collaborative relationships. You will learn to bring clarity and structure to evolving priorities, developing resilience and adaptability in a dynamic setting. Ultimately, you will refine your leadership approach, embracing empathy, curiosity, and a relentless focus on continuous improvement, making a significant impact on both the team and the company's mission.
