• • We are continuously expanding our engineering teams and are seeking passionate and experienced Engineering Managers to join us. This role is crucial in shaping the future of our technology and fostering a high-performing engineering culture. As an Engineering Manager at Monzo, you will be an integral part of cross-functional, autonomous, and mission-driven teams. These teams typically comprise Product Managers, backend, web, and mobile engineers, data scientists, designers, and relevant subject matter experts. Our organizational structure is designed to be lean, with teams empowered to make direct decisions relevant to their work, organized into groups and collectives.
• • *Your Impact and Responsibilities:**
• • As an Engineering Manager at Monzo, your role is multifaceted, encompassing people, product, and technical leadership. You will be accountable for the technical and delivery outcomes of your designated area, which involves nurturing and developing top-tier engineering talent while cultivating an inclusive environment where individuals can thrive and do their best work. You will be instrumental in driving engineering excellence and ensuring the successful delivery of impactful projects.
• • **Delivery Accountability:** Take ownership of delivery across your squad(s), working collaboratively with the Technical Lead and Product Manager to ensure successful project execution and achievement of team objectives.
• • **Engineering Excellence:** Actively foster and maintain a high standard of engineering excellence within your teams. You will be accountable for the technical outcomes delivered by your teams, as well as for the performance and growth of individual engineers. Clearly articulating expectations and upholding these high standards is paramount.
• • **Team Leadership and Development:** Initially lead a group of approximately 7-10 engineers, providing dedicated support, coaching, and career development through regular one-on-one meetings and continuous feedback. Your focus will be on empowering your team members to reach their full potential.
• • **Technical Vision and Strategy:** Partner with senior engineers within your area to drive strategic technical initiatives that elevate our engineering practices and standards across the organization. This includes identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices.
• • **Stakeholder Management:** Lead communication with stakeholders from other teams, ensuring alignment and fostering a collaborative environment. Your role will involve creating focused spaces for engineers to concentrate on their core tasks without unnecessary distractions.
• • **Cross-Organizational Collaboration:** Contribute to the wider engineering organization by sharing insights and collaborating on company-wide best practices, managerial approaches, and technical standards. This ensures consistency and continuous improvement across Monzo.
