📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end delivery of Bluefishai’s core AI platform, translating ambitious product vision into reliable, scalable systems that delight thousands of users every day.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing remote engineering team (currently 8 engineers across 3 time zones) by instituting lightweight yet rigorous processes that preserve speed and creativity.
• Partner directly with the CEO and Head of Product to set technical strategy, define quarterly OKRs, and make build-vs-buy decisions that will influence the company’s trajectory for the next 3–5 years.
• Establish engineering excellence standards—code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, on-call rotations, and security best practices—while keeping iteration cycles short and feedback loops tight.
• Act as the primary interface between engineering and go-to-market teams, ensuring that roadmap priorities align with customer needs, revenue targets, and investor milestones.
• Champion a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and data-driven decision making; run weekly retros, monthly 1:1s, and quarterly growth plans that turn ambitious ICs into future tech leads.
• Dive deep into the codebase when needed—whether debugging a latency spike in our Python micro-services or optimizing GPU utilization for our transformer models—to maintain credibility and context.
• Own the P&L for cloud infrastructure, balancing cost efficiency with performance; negotiate vendor contracts and implement auto-scaling policies that keep gross margins healthy.
• Lead incident response and post-mortems, turning outages into teachable moments that strengthen both systems and team resilience.
• Represent Bluefishai at conferences, podcasts, and open-source communities, amplifying our technical brand and attracting top-tier talent.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance to ensure SOC 2 readiness and GDPR adherence, embedding privacy-by-design into every feature.
• Spearhead the transition from monolith to micro-services, defining service boundaries, data contracts, and migration timelines that minimize customer disruption.
• Introduce observability best practices—distributed tracing, real-time alerting, SLO dashboards—so the team can detect and resolve issues before users notice.
• Create a transparent career ladder with clear competencies and compensation bands, reducing attrition and enabling succession planning.
• Foster cross-functional guilds (ML, Frontend, DevEx) that share knowledge, reduce silos, and accelerate innovation across squads.
• Iterate on hiring processes—structured interviews, take-home challenges, and values alignment sessions—that consistently bring in diverse, mission-driven engineers.
• Track key metrics: deployment frequency (< 5/day), change failure rate (< 5%), and mean time to recovery (< 30 min), using them to drive continuous improvement.
• Influence product pricing and packaging by providing technical insights on feature complexity and infrastructure cost, directly impacting ARR growth.
• Pilot an internal AI-powered code-review assistant that reduces PR turnaround time by 40%, freeing engineers to focus on higher-order problems.
• Build relationships with university labs and research partners to stay ahead of emerging AI techniques, ensuring Bluefishai remains at the cutting edge.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years leading distributed teams in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
• Proven track record shipping production-grade Python services on AWS or GCP, including container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CDK).
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical depth with people leadership—comfortable reviewing CUDA kernels one hour and conducting performance reviews the next.
• Strong product intuition and stakeholder management skills; able to translate fuzzy requirements into clear technical specs and realistic timelines.
• Nice-to-have: prior experience with ML model serving platforms (e.g., Ray Serve, BentoML, KServe) and GPU cost optimization.
