- • Day-to-day responsibilities include building the team from the ground up by defining roles, recruiting and hiring engineers, and establishing team culture and standards; shipping production code alongside the team across Python backend and React + TypeScript frontend to unblock others; improving AI-augmented engineering workflows organization-wide by defining where agents handle execution, where engineers verify, and how quality is maintained in regulated healthcare; partnering with the CTO and product team to translate complex healthcare problems into clear, scoped engineering work; scaling team and processes to support 100x transaction growth while maintaining quality and velocity; owning significant product surfaces end-to-end to drive both technical and product decisions; developing engineers through growth paths, technical mentorship, and fostering a high-trust, high-output culture; and shaping company-wide engineering culture in hiring, technical standards, developer experience, and human-agent collaboration.
- • The team at Develop Health is a small, elite group of founders and engineers with prior success in launching and exiting healthcare startups like Rupa Health and Canvas Medical, now scaling rapidly after a major funding round, partnering with top pharmacy benefit managers and payers to eliminate human delays in healthcare interactions and help over 400,000 new patients monthly.
- • In this role, the Engineering Manager will have the opportunity to grow into a VP of Engineering as the team scales past 20 engineers, directly impact patient outcomes by improving access to care, gain deep expertise in AI-powered developer tooling and agent workflows, and build a lasting engineering culture that leverages automation to enable a small team to achieve outsized impact in a high-growth, mission-driven health-tech environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years managing high-performing engineering teams
- • Strong technical skills in Python and TypeScript, including writing production code, reviewing complex PRs, and making architecture decisions
- • Experience building and scaling engineering teams through hiring, onboarding, and creating a high-trust, high-output culture
- • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and genuine excitement about how agents are transforming engineering workflows
- • Product-minded, ownership-driven approach focused on patient outcomes, not just system uptime
- • Availability to work on-site in Menlo Park at least three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday)
