- • Lead a rapidly scaling team of 7 engineers, with plans to expand further this year, focusing on the development of Vanta’s AI-first platform and Vanta Agent product for downmarket and startup customers.
- • Build and scale a high-performing engineering team by strategically hiring to fill critical skill gaps and fostering an environment where engineers can thrive and deliver impactful results.
- • Coach and mentor engineers through one-on-one development, career growth planning, and performance feedback to ensure sustained team excellence.
- • Set technical direction and strategy for AI agent systems and downmarket product initiatives, aligning long-term architecture with Vanta’s business priorities and customer needs.
- • Partner closely with product, design, and AI platform teams to ship customer-facing AI features that automate evidence collection for audits while maintaining human-in-the-loop controls.
- • Champion best practices in applied AI including prompt engineering, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), agentic frameworks, and quality evaluation methodologies to ensure reliable, trustworthy AI outputs.
- • Navigate rapid change and ambiguity by iterating quickly on roadmaps, adapting priorities as the team’s charter evolves in a fast-paced startup environment.
- • Drive adoption of AI amplification tools across the team, encouraging responsible and effective use of AI to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and enhance product quality.
- • Ensure the Vanta Agent product maintains customer control as the final approver in all automated decisions, balancing automation with trust and compliance.
- • Collaborate with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) subject matter experts to align AI features with regulatory and audit requirements such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
- • Stay current with evolving AI technologies and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and techniques to maintain Vanta’s competitive edge in automated trust verification.
- • Support the team’s familiarity with Vanta’s tech stack (TypeScript, React, Node.js) and encourage rapid onboarding for engineers without prior exposure.
- • Promote a culture of curiosity, continuous learning, and responsible AI usage, where team members are empowered to experiment, learn from failures, and improve impact.
- • Participate in company-wide events including virtual team building, lunch and learns, and other initiatives that foster connection and engagement across remote teams.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of experience managing technical teams of 4-8+ engineers
- • Proven track record as a strong individual contributor before transitioning to management, with hands-on applied AI experience
- • Deep knowledge of building LLM-backed products, including experience with prompting, RAG, agent frameworks, and quality hill-climbing
- • Experience in fast-paced, startup environments; founder background or YC experience is a strong plus
- • Strong adaptability and comfort with ambiguity—you can quickly iterate on roadmaps without too much attachment as priorities evolve
- • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills across engineering, product, design, and cross-functional teams
