📋 Description

• Lead and scale a rapidly growing engineering team of 7+ engineers, with plans to expand further this year, focusing on AI-driven product development for Vanta’s Agent platform
• Build a high-performing team by strategically hiring engineers with expertise in applied AI, LLMs, and agent frameworks to close critical skill gaps
• Coach and mentor engineers to foster an environment of psychological safety, ownership, and high-impact delivery aligned with Vanta’s mission
• Define and execute the technical strategy for AI agent and downmarket products, ensuring alignment with business priorities and long-term product vision
• Partner closely with product, design, and AI platform teams to ship customer-facing AI features that automate evidence collection for audits while maintaining human-in-the-loop approval controls
• Champion best practices in applied AI including prompt engineering, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), agentic workflows, and quality evaluation frameworks to ensure reliable, trustworthy outputs
• Drive iterative product development in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, adapting roadmaps quickly as team charter and customer needs evolve
• Ensure AI features maintain customer control and transparency, making sure users remain the final approver for all automated audit-related decisions
• Collaborate across engineering, product, and GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) subject matter experts to integrate AI innovations into Vanta’s Trust Management Platform
• Stay current with emerging LLM technologies and evaluate their applicability to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of Vanta’s AI-powered automation
• Promote responsible AI usage across the team by encouraging curiosity, sound judgment, and ethical application of AI tools to amplify human work
• Familiarize yourself with and ramp up on Vanta’s tech stack (TypeScript, React, Node.js) or demonstrate willingness to learn quickly
• Support the scaling of the Vanta Agent product from downmarket and startup customers to broader customer segments while preserving product quality and reliability

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years of experience managing technical teams of 4-8+ engineers
• Proven track record as a strong individual contributor with hands-on applied AI experience before transitioning to management
• Deep knowledge of building LLM-backed products, including experience with prompting, RAG, agent frameworks, and quality hill-climbing
• Experience in fast-paced, startup environments; founder background or YC experience is a strong plus
• Strong adaptability and comfort with ambiguity, with ability to iterate quickly on roadmaps without over-attachment to initial plans
• Excellent collaboration and influencing skills across engineering, product, design, and cross-functional teams
