📋 Description

• As the Engineering Manager for our new Analytics Platform team, you will be at the forefront of shaping Octopus Energy's global data strategy. This is a pivotal role within a rapidly growing, innovative company that is committed to leveraging data and technology to accelerate the transition to Net Zero.
• You will lead and mentor a talented team of Analytics Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Your leadership will be instrumental in guiding the team to build, scale, and maintain a world-class analytics platform that serves millions of customers and supports diverse business functions across the globe.
• The core mission of this role is to drive the next iteration of our analytics platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and user-friendly. This involves a deep understanding of data architecture, ELT processes, machine learning pipelines, and enabling natural language querying for a wide range of data consumers.
• You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of data products built on the platform, from conceptualization and development to deployment and ongoing optimization. This includes setting technical standards, defining best practices, and ensuring the platform's architecture can support the increasing demands of our global operations.
• This role demands a unique blend of deep technical expertise in data engineering and analytics, coupled with a strong product management mindset. You will need to understand the needs of our data-hungry users – from performance measurement of green energy generation assets to processing trillions of device readings for innovative smart tariffs – and translate those needs into scalable, impactful data solutions.
• A key aspect of your responsibility will be to champion the adoption of the analytics platform across all our business units. This involves collaborating closely with stakeholders, understanding their data challenges, and demonstrating the value proposition of the platform in driving business insights and operational efficiency.
• You will oversee the technical innovation within the team, encouraging experimentation with new technologies and methodologies to enhance the platform's capabilities. This includes staying abreast of emerging trends in data engineering, analytics, and AI, and evaluating their potential application within Octopus Energy.
• The team will be responsible for embedding automation across all data workflows. This means designing and implementing automated ELT processes, streamlining machine learning model deployment, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of data pipelines that underpin critical business decisions.
• You will play a crucial role in defining the technical roadmap for the analytics platform, aligning it with the overarching business objectives and the company's ambitious Net Zero goals. This requires strategic thinking and the ability to anticipate future data needs.
• Empowering users to generate insights from data is a fundamental objective. You will ensure the platform provides intuitive tools and interfaces, potentially including natural language query capabilities, that enable thousands of users to access and interpret data effectively, fostering a data-driven culture throughout the organization.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience in leading and managing data engineering or analytics engineering teams, with a track record of successfully delivering complex data projects.
• Strong technical background in data warehousing, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
• Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster) and a solid understanding of software engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, version control).
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and product-oriented thinking skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
