- • As an Engineering Manager for the Authentication Experience team at 1Password, you will lead and empower a strong development team that owns the overall experience surrounding signing in to and unlocking 1Password apps across all platforms. This role is critical as it focuses on the first point of entry for users, ensuring seamless, secure, and delightful authentication experiences for both consumer and business customers by integrating tightly with the company’s authentication stack.
- • You will be responsible for tactical execution through cycle planning, design reviews, and project planning, while also hiring and coaching world-class engineering talent. Your leadership will drive the delivery of high-impact projects that scale with 1Password’s growing user base, which includes over 180,000 businesses and millions of individual users relying on the platform for secure access to SaaS and AI tools.
- • You will foster a positive, healthy team environment where engineers are supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work. By motivating and inspiring your team, you will help create an inclusive workplace that values innovation, execution, and collaboration, while maintaining high standards of quality, velocity, and communication.
- • The Authentication Experience team operates within a remote-first culture that values in-person connection when needed, and you will work with other Engineering Managers to continuously refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes to scale a highly specialized engineering team across the United States and Canada.
- • In this role, you will grow technically and as a leader by tackling complex, unscoped problems in authentication and identity, deepening your expertise in protocols like OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, WebAuthn, passkeys, and MFA, while also gaining experience in cross-functional project delivery that touches multiple areas of the business, product, and underlying architecture.
- • You will have the opportunity to shape the future of secure digital access by contributing to 1Password’s Extended Access Management category, working alongside a mission-driven team that values honesty, simplicity, and putting people first, all while enjoying the autonomy to make impactful decisions even in ambiguous situations.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers, including responsibilities related to hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development.
- • Significant hands-on development experience, preferably in mobile or desktop app environments, with a background as a senior developer who has engineered solutions to complex, unscoped problems.
- • 1+ years of experience working in the authentication and identity domain, with a solid understanding of standards and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, WebAuthn, passkeys, and MFA.
- • Proven ability to coordinate and deliver large-scale projects that span multiple areas of the business, product, or underlying architecture.
- • Demonstrated skill in creating and maintaining a positive, healthy team environment where individuals are motivated, inspired, and empowered to do their best work.
- • Comfort with making final decisions autonomously, even when information is limited, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to contribute technically to team challenges.
- • Experience driving project delivery and creating roadmaps for future work, with bonus points for managing remote/distributed teams, UX/design background, or proficiency in Kotlin, Swift, Rust, JavaScript, Go, or related languages.

- • Competitive annual base salary ranging from $192,000 to $278,000 USD for U.S.-based roles or $171,000 to $248,000 CAD for Canada-based roles.
