đź“‹ Description
- • Istari Digital is at the forefront of digital engineering, empowering organizations to transform the physical world into a digital realm for achieving critical mission and business objectives. Our foundational vision is to establish open, scalable digital engineering ecosystems, enabling the creation of new technologies and systems in a digital space, unbound by the traditional constraints of cost and time. We are developing the world's premier engineering model-sharing platform, designed to facilitate simple and secure integration of models across diverse engineering disciplines, organizations, and security classifications. At Istari, our driving passion is the realization of the world's first open and scalable industrial metaverse. Whether our clients are engaged in prototype design, virtual testing, or the training of AI and autonomous systems for complex challenges, we are committed to demonstrating how digital transformation can yield significant savings in time, resources, and a reduction in environmental impact.
- • While we operate as a distributed team with a strong remote workforce, Istari places a significant emphasis on maintaining robust connections and fostering collaboration. We prioritize in-person opportunities to cultivate trust and strengthen our team dynamics. We believe that genuine trust is most effectively built through face-to-face interactions. To support this philosophy, we maintain an engineering headquarters in Cambridge, MA, dedicated to focused technical development. Furthermore, we convene several times a year for off-site events designed to enhance both professional skills and team relationships.
- • As an Engineering Manager for Data and Infrastructure at Istari, you will be instrumental in leading the team responsible for the foundational data layer and the operational bedrock of the Istari platform. This pivotal team holds stewardship over our open-source graph database (Dgraph), Kubernetes deployments, the development of installation tooling for our self-hosted clientele, and the essential infrastructure required for operating within ITAR-restricted environments. This role is a unique blend of hands-on technical leadership and adept people management, where you will guide and mentor engineers while simultaneously charting the strategic direction for secure, reliable, and scalable data and infrastructure capabilities.
- • Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of technical and managerial duties. You will be expected to foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within your team. This includes setting clear technical goals, ensuring adherence to best practices in software development and infrastructure management, and actively participating in architectural discussions. You will play a key role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our data storage solutions, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and performance. This involves deep engagement with our Dgraph implementation, optimizing its performance, and potentially contributing to its development.
- • Furthermore, you will oversee the management and scaling of our Kubernetes infrastructure, ensuring high availability, robust security, and efficient resource utilization. This includes managing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring system health, and implementing disaster recovery strategies. A critical aspect of your role will be the development and refinement of our installation tooling, making it seamless and secure for our self-hosted customers to deploy and manage the Istari platform within their own environments. This requires a deep understanding of deployment strategies, configuration management, and customer support needs.
- • Operating within ITAR-restricted spaces presents unique challenges and demands a rigorous approach to security and compliance. You will be responsible for ensuring that our infrastructure and data handling practices meet or exceed all relevant regulatory requirements. This involves working closely with security and compliance teams, implementing necessary controls, and staying abreast of evolving regulations.
- • As a people manager, you will be responsible for the growth and development of your team members. This includes conducting regular one-on-one meetings, providing constructive feedback, identifying training opportunities, and fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. You will be a champion for your team, advocating for their needs and ensuring they have the resources and support necessary to succeed. Your ability to inspire, motivate, and lead will be crucial to the team's overall effectiveness and the success of the Istari platform.
- • This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance immediate operational needs with long-term platform evolution. You will collaborate closely with product management, other engineering teams, and stakeholders across the organization to align infrastructure and data strategies with business goals. Your insights into data trends, infrastructure performance, and emerging technologies will be invaluable in shaping the future of Istari's platform. You will be a key contributor to our mission of building the world's first open and scalable industrial metaverse, ensuring that our data and infrastructure are robust, secure, and capable of supporting our ambitious vision.
🎯 Requirements

- • Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, particularly Kubernetes, and experience managing scalable infrastructure.
- • Familiarity with ITAR regulations and experience implementing secure infrastructure solutions in compliance with such requirements.
- • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to mentor and develop engineers.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity package.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Generous paid time off and holidays.
- • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
- • Collaborative and innovative work environment with a focus on building the future of digital engineering.
