đź“‹ Description
- • As the Engineering Manager for Developer Experience (DevEx) at Onebrief, you will be at the forefront of a significant strategic investment aimed at revolutionizing how we build and deliver software. This is a unique opportunity to lead a newly formed, high-impact team dedicated to optimizing the entire developer journey, from initial code commit to seamless production deployment. Your leadership will directly shape the efficiency, productivity, and overall satisfaction of our engineering organization, acting as a critical force multiplier.
- • Your primary mission will be to define and execute a comprehensive roadmap for developer productivity. This involves identifying and eliminating friction points across all stages of the software development lifecycle. You will champion the creation of a standardized 'Golden Path' – a streamlined and optimized workflow that empowers every engineer to operate at peak performance. This includes establishing best practices for IDE configurations, developing robust bootstrapping processes, and ensuring a frictionless onboarding experience for new team members.
- • A key aspect of your role will be to consolidate and strategically leverage our AI tooling. You will lead an audit of the current AI landscape, identifying redundancies and opportunities for integration. Your responsibility will extend to selecting, budgeting for, and overseeing the implementation of a unified AI suite. The goal is to ensure consistent adoption, drive measurable efficiency gains, and position Onebrief at the cutting edge of AI-assisted software development.
- • You will also be instrumental in modernizing our technology stack and development practices. This includes coordinating the strategic rollout of language-specific upgrades and versioning, with a particular focus on the TypeScript and Node.js ecosystem. Managing the transition from legacy systems to modern build tools like Turborepo will be crucial for reducing build and test latencies, thereby accelerating our development cycles.
- • Collaboration and governance will be central to your success. You will work closely with Application Security and Engineering leadership to establish robust library governance policies. This involves balancing the need for rapid development velocity with stringent enterprise security requirements, ensuring we maintain a secure and compliant development environment.
- • Furthermore, you will define and implement engineering standards and governance models to ensure consistency and quality across all product teams. This includes overseeing the design and evolution of our CI/CD workflows and pipelines, making them intuitive and efficient for developers.
- • This role demands a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by software engineers. You will translate developer pain points into actionable technical initiatives, prioritizing them based on their potential impact and leverage. Your ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the DevEx team will be paramount.
- • You will lead a team of specialized engineers, providing them with the vision, direction, and support they need to excel. Mentoring and developing your team members will be a key responsibility, ensuring they have the skills and resources to tackle complex challenges.
- • Success in this role will be measured by tangible improvements in developer productivity metrics, such as deployment frequency, lead time for changes, and reduction in build times. You will be responsible for defining these metrics and tracking progress against them.
- • By taking ownership of the developer experience, you will directly contribute to Onebrief's mission of transforming military staff work through AI-powered workflow software. Your work will enable our engineering organization to scale effectively, ensuring we can continue to deliver innovative solutions to our customers with speed and precision.
- • This is a high-visibility position within a rapidly growing, well-funded company. You will have the autonomy to shape a critical function and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the engineering culture and output of Onebrief.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a focus on internal tooling, developer productivity, or platform engineering.
- • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with a strong understanding of the TypeScript/Node.js ecosystem and monorepo architectures.
- • Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions), and the current AI-assisted engineering landscape.
- • Proven ability to translate developer pain points into a prioritized technical roadmap and drive execution.
- • Strong empathy for the developer experience and a passion for building internal products that enhance productivity and adoption.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity package.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Generous paid time off and holidays.
- • Opportunity to lead a high-impact, strategic team at a rapidly growing, well-funded company.
- • Professional development and learning opportunities.
- • Fully remote work environment with flexibility.
