đź“‹ Description

  • • As the Engineering Manager for Infrastructure Automation at Airwallex, you will lead a newly formed team of 5 engineers focused on building AI-powered agents that eliminate operational toil in DevOps, SRE, and DBA workflows. This role is critical to scaling Airwallex’s global engineering efficiency by transforming manual, repetitive infrastructure tasks into autonomous, intelligent systems with human-in-the-loop safeguards—directly impacting reliability, velocity, and innovation across 200,000+ global businesses relying on the platform.
  • • You will define the technical vision and execution strategy for AI-driven infrastructure automation, hiring and mentoring a high-performing team of engineers (3 SWE/DevOps + 2 DBA/SWE) from scratch, establishing team culture, processes, and goals while staying technically hands-on in architecture, design, and code review to ensure production-grade, reliable automation systems.
  • • Day to day, you will: build and lead the Infrastructure Automation team through hiring, mentoring, performance feedback, and career development; define and prioritize the AI automation roadmap by identifying high-impact opportunities across incident response, root cause analysis, provisioning, deployment, and change management; design and develop AI agents that correlate logs, metrics, and traces to autonomously diagnose and remediate infrastructure issues; drive DBA automation initiatives including schema validation, query performance analysis, capacity forecasting, backup verification, and self-healing replication; ensure automation systems are production-reliable through monitoring, on-call participation, postmortem leadership, and enforcement of quality gates (80% UT/IT coverage); collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure, SRE, DBA, Observability, Security, and Compliance teams to integrate automation tools and drive adoption; and influence cross-functional stakeholders without authority to align on standards and tooling.
  • • The Infrastructure & Productivity division at Airwallex serves as the backbone of global engineering operations, supporting hundreds of engineers across 10+ offices and multiple time zones with cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, observability, data pipelines, and SRE practices. This team is mission-driven to make the right way the easy way by building globally distributed platforms that empower engineers with world-class tools and advocate for reliability, automation, and excellence at scale.
  • • You will have the opportunity to shape a greenfield team from the ground up—defining roles, hiring talent, establishing culture and processes, and driving innovation in AI-powered infrastructure automation. You’ll grow your leadership and technical expertise by solving complex, high-visibility problems at the intersection of AI, SRE, DBA, and cloud engineering, while contributing to a platform that powers some of the world’s most innovative fintech and global businesses.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a people management or technical leadership role managing a team of 3+ engineers.
  • • Strong infrastructure and operations background: deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Aliyun), Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • • Hands-on experience with SRE practices: incident management, observability (logs, metrics, traces), monitoring systems (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Datadog), and operational runbooks.
  • • Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin, with the ability to contribute to architectural decisions and review code effectively.
  • • Experience with AI/ML technologies or LLM-based systems, with demonstrated ability to apply AI to solve operational or infrastructure problems.
  • • Solid understanding of database systems (relational and NoSQL), with familiarity in DBA operations such as schema management, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across globally distributed teams. Ability to influence without authority and drive adoption of new tooling and practices.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive compensation package including base salary, equity, and performance bonuses aligned with Airwallex’s high-growth, mission-driven culture.
  • • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans for employees and dependents, supplemented by wellness programs and mental health resources.
  • • Generous paid time off, parental leave, and flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance and long-term sustainability.
  • • Access to cutting-edge AI/ML tools, infrastructure, and training to stay at the forefront of technological innovation in automation and AIOps.
  • • Opportunities for professional growth through mentorship, leadership development, and exposure to global engineering challenges across 26 offices and 2,000+ engineers.
  • • A purpose-driven mission to build the future of global payments and finance, working alongside world-class investors and innovators in fintech.
