📋 Description

• Lead and grow the Community Engineering team at n8n to scale high-quality community-driven development across the ecosystem, ensuring external contributors can successfully improve the platform.
• Coach and support a team of 3 Community Engineers, bring clarity and accountability to their work, and shape the team’s growth through hiring, onboarding, and defining performance standards.
• Build and refine processes, tooling, and feedback loops to help contributors submit high-quality code and nodes, reduce friction in contribution workflows, and increase team leverage through automation and documentation.
• Oversee quality of community-led engineering work, ensure contributions meet product standards for maintainability and integration, and step in hands-on to review code or unblock technical issues when needed.
• Partner closely with product engineering teams like Nodes to reduce maintenance burden from community contributions, surface contributor pain points, and improve the developer experience across the ecosystem.
• Work in a remote-first environment with a strong builder culture, backed by a vibrant open-source community of over 650,000 developers and a $2.5bn valuation, contributing to one of the world’s Top 40 most popular GitHub projects.
• Help turn community contributions into real product impact by bridging external contributors with internal product teams and scaling reliable, sustainable open-source collaboration.

🎯 Requirements

• Engineering management experience: You’ve managed engineers before and know how to coach, support, and grow technical ICs in a healthy, high-trust environment.
• Broad technical credibility: You can read and discuss code comfortably, guide code reviews, and help your team navigate debugging, integrations, APIs, and engineering workflows.
• Hands-on mindset: You’re willing to jump into the work when needed, whether that means reviewing PRs, unblocking technical issues, or improving team processes yourself.
• Open source or developer community experience: You understand how external contributors work and how to support them with the right balance of quality standards, responsiveness, and empathy.
• GitHub and contribution workflow fluency: You’re comfortable with pull requests, forks, code review, and collaborative software development workflows.
• Systems thinking: You naturally spot bottlenecks, recurring issues, and process gaps, and you know how to turn them into scalable improvements.
• Experience in fast-moving product environments: You’ve worked in startup or high-growth settings where priorities evolve quickly and teams need to create structure as they scale.
• Strong n8n familiarity: You’ve used n8n at an advanced level and can quickly understand how contributors, nodes, and workflows fit into the product ecosystem.
