📋 Description

• Lead a high-performing remote team of backend engineers responsible for building and maintaining Oscilar’s core infrastructure, including Kafka ingestion platforms, ClickHouse data layers, and event-driven workflow engines that process millions of daily events with minimal latency.
• Own the technical architecture and reliability of distributed systems that underpin the company’s AI Risk Decisioning™ Platform, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance for financial institutions and fintech clients.
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for core engineering systems, aligning with product, infrastructure, and AI teams to deliver mission-critical risk detection and compliance solutions.
• Implement scalable engineering processes across planning, estimation, quality assurance, and production reliability, incorporating AI-driven methodologies to enhance team productivity and delivery predictability.
• Lead planning and delivery cycles with aggressive deadlines, ensuring teams remain focused, aligned, and consistently execute against business commitments in a fast-paced environment.
• Foster a culture of extreme ownership, technical excellence, rapid iteration, and shared accountability across engineering teams, promoting high performance and continuous improvement.
• Attract, mentor, and retain top-tier backend engineering talent while building a strong leadership bench to support organizational scaling and succession planning.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and infrastructure leads in North America and Poland to align roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and ensure seamless execution of technical strategies.
• Drive operational excellence by establishing disciplined development workflows, monitoring system health, and reducing technical debt without compromising speed or quality.
• Work closely with AI and data teams to integrate machine learning models into real-time risk decisioning pipelines, ensuring low-latency processing and accurate anomaly detection.
• Maintain deep technical involvement in system design and code reviews while transitioning from individual contributor to leadership, ensuring architectural integrity and engineering standards are upheld.
• Coordinate across time zones to manage and support a distributed team, enabling effective communication, alignment, and collaboration between engineers in Poland and North America.
• Champion engineering best practices including observability, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and incident response protocols to ensure system resilience and rapid recovery.
• Scale engineering organization processes to accommodate growth, including onboarding, performance management, career pathing, and team structure evolution.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in distributed systems, stream processing, and cloud-native infrastructure to evaluate and recommend improvements to the tech stack.
• Ensure compliance with financial industry standards through robust system design, auditability, and data integrity controls within the risk decisioning platform.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of experience managing high-performing platform and backend teams building on distributed architecture.
• 7+ years of hands-on backend experience working on large scale, low latency distributed systems, event streaming, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong technical background — ideally familiar with technologies like Kafka, ClickHouse, Postgres, Redis, and Flink.
• Proven track record of operational excellence, including establishing disciplined planning processes and consistently delivering predictable, high-quality execution against business commitments.
• Proven ability to scale engineering organizations by defining effective development processes, driving engineering excellence, and embedding best practices across multiple teams.
• Track record of leading complex technical projects and collaborating cross-functionally with product and infra.
• Comfortable in high-growth, fast-paced environments with lots of ambiguity and autonomy.
