  • • As an Engineering Manager for the Sports Core team at PENN Entertainment, you will be at the forefront of building and operating the foundational platform that powers real-time sports and wagering experiences at an immense scale. This is a pivotal role where you will lead talented engineers, collaborate with product visionaries, and ensure the delivery of mission-critical core services and APIs. These services are the lifeblood of our operations, distributing real-time sports data and event states that enable downstream teams to craft exceptional fan experiences across our leading Media and Sports Betting products, including theScore Bet Sportsbook and theScore media app.
  • • You will be instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence, reliability, and scalability within your team. Your leadership will directly influence the success of PENN's omnichannel gaming and entertainment strategy, a key differentiator in the North American market. This is an opportunity to not only manage but also to mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team, guiding them towards achieving ambitious goals and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the digital sports and gaming landscape.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and conducting performance management to ensure individual and team growth. You will work hand-in-hand with Product Managers to shape the product roadmap, meticulously define requirements, and guarantee the team's successful execution against these plans. A critical aspect of your role will be to ensure that all development deliverables are thoroughly documented and that key architectural and technical decisions are recorded, adhering to our rigorous design and development processes.
  • • Beyond team management, you will actively participate in hiring initiatives, helping to attract and onboard top engineering talent across the department. You will be a key contributor to identifying and resolving process inefficiencies, driving continuous improvement in our design, development methodologies, and overall system architecture. Ensuring adherence to the established development process throughout the entire software development lifecycle will be paramount.
  • • Establishing and monitoring key success metrics, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), will be crucial for tracking team and system performance. You will collaborate closely with your team to meet and exceed ambitious goals related to performance, scalability, and reliability, ensuring our platforms can handle peak loads and deliver seamless user experiences.
  • • Staying abreast of the latest industry trends, techniques, and technologies is essential. You will be encouraged to incorporate new advancements as deemed necessary, ensuring our technology stack remains cutting-edge and competitive. This role also involves a strong emphasis on problem-solving and operational judgment, enabling you to effectively manage risks, unblock your team, and make sound, high-quality decisions, especially under pressure.
  • • You will be a champion for clean architecture, software craftsmanship, automated testing, CI/CD, and progressive delivery practices. Your passion for these principles will translate into robust, maintainable, and high-quality software. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to explore and integrate practical applications of AI developer tooling to enhance throughput and quality, while implementing sensible guardrails. You will also evaluate and integrate AI capabilities into our products to drive personalization, amplify feature enhancements, and support automation, keeping us at the forefront of innovation.
  • • Operating within regulated environments is a key consideration, and you will be responsible for embedding secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices to ensure compliance and protect our users' data. A data-driven mindset is vital; you will leverage product and engineering metrics to guide experimentation and prioritization, ensuring our efforts are aligned with business objectives and user needs.
  • • Your ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to a diverse range of stakeholders, including non-technical members of the organization, will be a significant asset. Excellent presentation and communication skills, including the ability to write crisp technical narratives for decision records, incident reviews, and executive updates, are expected. You will foster a collaborative work style, effectively partnering with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • • We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of building and operating reliable, scalable, and secure services for high-traffic, latency-sensitive experiences. A high level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning to identify underlying causes of issues will be essential. Ultimately, you will drive for simple solutions to complex problems, skillfully balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability. A genuine passion for sports and fan culture, coupled with an understanding of what drives audience engagement and memorable live event moments, will be a distinct advantage in this role.
  • • This is a remote position based in Canada, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the country. You will be joining a company that is committed to your career growth, providing ample opportunities to expand your skills and explore new avenues within PENN Entertainment.
