Engineering Manager, Underwriting

📋 Description

• • As an Engineering Manager for the Underwriting Team at Bestow, you will lead a full-stack team of approximately 9 engineers—including FTEs, nearshore contractors, and offshore contractors based in Europe—owning a subset of the underwriting product workstreams to build and evolve Bestow's underwriting platform that powers automated decisioning, case management, underwriter tooling, and data vendor integrations central to life insurance risk assessment and pricing.
• • You will spend approximately 20% of your time contributing production-level code while providing technical leadership, driving delivery outcomes, managing a distributed team across time zones, and fostering team development through personalized growth plans, constructive feedback, and cohesive culture-building across FTE and contractor boundaries.
• • The Engineering team at Bestow serves employees, consumers, and enterprise customers by building software, integrating and managing third-party products, and working closely with product management and design to define and prioritize the product roadmap, with major functional teams in product engineering, infrastructure, IT, data & analytics, and program management.
• • In this role, you will learn to balance technical excellence with business objectives, champion the adoption of generative AI tools for development and productivity, drive large initiatives from conception through delivery, and grow as a technical leader who multiplies impact through hands-on engineering and effective team leadership in a mission-driven insurtech environment.
