Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead a distributed engineering squad of 8-12 backend, mobile and DevOps engineers building the core payments, lending and merchant-acquiring products that power millions of daily transactions across Nigeria and Kenya.
- • Own the full delivery lifecycle—from translating fintech product requirements into technical architecture, through writing and reviewing production-grade Kotlin, Java and Go code, to ensuring 99.99 % uptime of services that process over $12 billion annually.
- • Drive quarterly OKRs that balance rapid feature velocity (shipping new lending, savings and card products every 4-6 weeks) with platform reliability, security and regulatory compliance (PCI-DSS, NDPR, CBK and CBN guidelines).
- • Establish and evangelise engineering best practices: trunk-based development, automated testing >80 % coverage, rigorous code reviews, phased roll-outs via feature flags, and blameless post-mortems that turn incidents into durable learning.
- • Mentor and level-up engineers through weekly 1:1s, pair programming, architecture deep-dives and personalised growth plans; grow at least two engineers to senior/staff level within your first 12 months.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, Risk, Compliance, Data Science and Customer Success to prioritise roadmap items, de-risk regulatory changes and ensure every release improves merchant conversion and end-user experience.
- • Optimise cloud infrastructure on GCP and AWS for cost, latency and resilience: tune Kubernetes clusters, refine CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD), and champion Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Helm) so deployments take minutes, not hours.
- • Champion data-driven decision making by instrumenting services with OpenTelemetry, setting SLIs/SLOs and running weekly reliability reviews that translate metrics into concrete engineering tasks.
- • Foster an inclusive, remote-first culture across GMT+1 to GMT+3 time zones: run effective stand-ups, sprint planning and retros; ensure every voice is heard and psychological safety is non-negotiable.
- • Contribute to Moniepoint’s open-source footprint by publishing libraries, blog posts and conference talks that showcase how emerging-market fintech solves scale, identity and offline-first challenges.
- • Stay ahead of the curve: evaluate new technologies (e.g., WebAssembly for sandboxed plugins, advanced fraud-detection ML models) and run 10 % innovation sprints that keep Moniepoint the second-fastest growing company in Africa.
- • Report directly to the VP of Engineering, presenting monthly progress on system reliability, team health and business impact to the executive team and board.
