- • The Export Compliance Manager at Carnegie Mellon University’s Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) plays a critical role in ensuring the university’s research activities comply with U.S. export control laws and regulations, enabling secure and lawful international collaboration.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting in the creation and implementation of defense export control processes, preparing documentation for shipping hardware and exporting software/technical data, reviewing export control cases for projects, screening sponsors and visitors for restricted party compliance, and providing education and training to researchers and staff on export regulations.
- • The OVPR supports interdisciplinary research across CMU’s colleges, schools, and over 100 centers and institutes, fostering innovation while ensuring adherence to federal regulations and university policy through close collaboration with deans, faculty, and administrative offices.
- • In this role, the individual will develop expertise in U.S. export administration regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and licensing procedures, while building leadership skills in policy development, cross-functional collaboration, and compliance training within a prestigious research institution.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree desirable
- • 3-5 years of experience in export compliance and/or international trade frameworks
- • Experience with U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and related trade frameworks
- • Experience conducting audits and training staff on export regulations
- • Experience advising on licensing, documentation, and international shipments
- • Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) certification preferred but not required
