- • As a Field Service Engineer for Agilent Technologies, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of GCMS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) and related analytical instrumentation across customer laboratories in Connecticut, New York, and Northern New Jersey. Your work directly enables scientific discovery and quality control in industries such as pharmaceuticals, environmental testing, food safety, and forensics by keeping mission-critical instruments operational.
- • You will be the trusted technical expert on-site, responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Agilent and multi-vendor GCMS systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum data integrity for customers who rely on precise analytical results.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include: installing and optimizing GCMS hardware, software, and network configurations at customer sites; diagnosing and resolving complex instrument performance issues through systematic troubleshooting; performing preventive maintenance and repairs to extend instrument lifespan; advising customers on best practices for sample preparation, column care, and instrument tuning to prevent future issues; proactively identifying potential failures before they cause unplanned downtime; delivering integrated solutions involving peripherals, data systems, and application software; training both customer personnel and junior field engineers on proper operation and maintenance procedures; and maintaining detailed service records while adhering to safety and compliance protocols.
- • You will join Agilent’s global Field Service organization, a team of highly skilled engineers dedicated to supporting scientists worldwide with industry-leading analytical instruments. - • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in GCMS technology, including advanced troubleshooting of ionization sources, mass analyzers, vacuum systems, and data handling software. You will develop strong consultative skills by translating technical findings into actionable advice for customers, enhance your ability to work independently while collaborating with remote support teams, and gain exposure to evolving analytical workflows across multiple industries—positioning you for advancement into senior field roles, specialization, or leadership within Agilent’s service organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline (e.g., chemistry, analytical sciences, biomedical engineering) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- • 8+ years of hands-on experience in field service, instrument maintenance, or as an end-user operating GCMS instrumentation.
- • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems with analytical instruments under pressure.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation for daily travel across a multistate territory (CT, NY, NJ).
- • Clear, respectful, and timely verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers, team members, and support staff.
- • Willingness and ability to travel up to 35% of the time, including overnight and weekend trips as needed.
