Field Technician II – Memphis, TN

📋 Description

• • Perform hands-on installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet-based systems with limited supervision.
• • Conduct OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET acceptance testing to ensure network performance and service integrity.
• • Install, label, scope, clean, and test fiber optic patch cords in compliance with Zayo’s technical and safety standards.
• • Execute preliminary site surveys for building entrance construction, equipment space availability, and infrastructure readiness.
• • Perform preventative and demand-based maintenance on network infrastructure, critical facilities, and materials management systems.
• • Work in outdoor and indoor environments including elevated locations, confined spaces, and varied terrains with exposure to extreme weather, vegetation, and wildlife.
• • Inspect outdoor cabinets, buried cable routes, and construction sites to identify and proactively resolve potential network issues before they become service-affecting.
• • Operate and maintain company-issued vehicles, conducting routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with operational standards.
• • Complete detailed documentation including site surveys, fiber panel audits, close-out packages, power audit reports, and maintenance logs.
• • Communicate effectively with customers, management, peers, contractors, and other organizational members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
• • Utilize deductive reasoning to improve network performance and enhance customer experience in complex technical scenarios.
• • Assist less experienced Field Technicians by providing guidance and sharing technical knowledge.
• • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to support after-hours emergency repairs and network outages.
• • Flexibility to work extended shifts, overnight hours, and occasional travel as required by business needs.
• • Read, interpret, and adhere to OSHA/Company safety rules, MSDS, MOPs, CLR/DLR, and vendor documentation for all technical procedures.
• • Follow all personal safety policies and procedures while working in high-risk environments including heights, electrical systems, and confined spaces.
• • Maintain physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks in diverse field conditions.
• • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements including MVR checks and background verification.
• • Support network decommissioning and customer service turn-up activities across metro and long-haul fiber networks.
• • Meet documented performance objectives and business goals as defined by operational needs.
