Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end financial planning & analysis cycle for Biogen’s Research organization, translating scientific ambition into disciplined, data-driven budgets that power breakthrough therapies from bench to bedside.
- • Drive the annual operating plan, quarterly forecasts, and 5-year long-range plan for a >$500 million global research portfolio, partnering with functional leaders in biology, chemistry, translational medicine, and external collaborations to ensure every dollar is strategically deployed.
- • Serve as the single point of accountability for monthly close: prepare and post complex journal entries, reconcile high-risk balance-sheet accounts, and deliver crisp variance commentary that is presented directly to VP-level stakeholders within three business days.
- • Build and maintain dynamic financial models that quantify ROI on early-stage programs, enabling leadership to prioritize investments across competing pipelines and rapidly re-allocate resources when science or markets shift.
- • Cultivate trusted business partnerships—be the “go-to” finance voice for Research VPs, alliance managers, and external collaboration partners—reviewing purchase orders, negotiating milestone payment schedules, and ensuring contractual obligations are fully reflected in forecasts.
- • Ensure bullet-proof SOX compliance and GAAP adherence across all research transactions; design and test key controls, coordinate external audit requests, and remediate deficiencies before they become findings.
- • Manage the financial governance of strategic collaborations with top-tier biotechs and academic centers: track multi-year spend, validate milestone achievements, and provide quarterly roll-forwards that keep both Biogen and its partners aligned on cash flow and P&L impact.
- • Deliver decision-support analytics on demand—run scenario analyses for new platform technologies, model cost-sharing options for joint ventures, and simulate the financial impact of accelerating or terminating programs.
- • Influence a culture of fiscal discipline and scientific impact by coaching non-finance leaders on budget ownership, translating complex numbers into actionable insights, and celebrating wins that advance patient outcomes.
- • Champion continuous improvement: automate recurring reports in Oracle/Hyperion/Business Objects, streamline the PO approval workflow, and reduce forecast cycle time by at least 20% within your first year.
- • Lead or support ad-hoc projects such as due diligence for in-licensing deals, integration planning for new research sites, or ESG cost-benefit analyses for green lab initiatives.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent quantitative discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of progressive FP&A or controllership experience in a complex, matrixed organization.
- • Demonstrated fluency in U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance; hands-on experience designing internal controls and managing external audits.
- • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; familiarity with Oracle, Hyperion, and Business Objects strongly preferred.
- • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, negotiate cross-functionally, and translate financial data into strategic recommendations.
- • Preferred: MBA or CPA credential; prior experience supporting R&D or research functions in the life-sciences industry.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary of $106,000–$142,000 plus annual short- and long-term incentives (cash bonus + equity) tied to individual, business-unit, and company performance.
- • Comprehensive well-being package: medical, dental, vision, life, short- and long-term disability, 401(k) with company match, and employee stock purchase plan.
- • Generous time-off policy: minimum 15 vacation days, end-of-year shutdown (Dec 26–31), 12 company holidays, 3 personal significance days, and 80 hours sick time.
- • Family-first support: paid maternity and parental leave, fitness & wellness reimbursement up to $1,000 annually, and up to $10,000 annual tuition reimbursement.
