  • • Prepare and serve meals to patients, visitors, and hospital staff in compliance with designated recipes, production worksheets, and Food & Nutrition Services policies.
  • • Perform food preparation tasks including slicing lunch meat, chopping fruits and vegetables, and assembling salads and sandwiches according to standardized procedures.
  • • Ensure accurate meal assembly for patients by following individualized tray tickets or cards, adhering strictly to physician-ordered diet therapies and documented allergy restrictions.
  • • Maintain full knowledge of food safety, infection control, and sanitation regulations, applying them consistently throughout all stages of food production, storage, and service.
  • • Implement FIFO (First-in/First-out) inventory practices to minimize food waste and ensure product freshness and compliance with storage standards.
  • • Label and date all food items in accordance with facility policy and immediately report any deviations or discrepancies to management.
  • • Demonstrate positive and professional communication with patients, families, physicians, and internal team members to support a compassionate and respectful care environment.
  • • Maintain flexibility and reliability during high-volume periods, assisting coworkers as needed to ensure timely meal service and operational efficiency.
  • • Complete all assigned cleaning and sanitation tasks as outlined in job work flows and posted assignment sheets prior to shift end.
  • • Notify supervisors promptly when unable to complete assigned duties due to workload, equipment issues, or other constraints.
  • • Ensure proper portion control and visually appealing plate presentation for all meals served.
  • • Adhere to all regulatory and facility-specific guidelines related to temperature control, food quality, and safe handling practices.
  • • Support a safe and sanitary work environment for both staff and patients by following all infection control protocols and sanitation standards.
  • • Contribute to a culture of patient-centered care by consistently demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail in all interactions.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Must obtain ANSI-approved Food Handlers Card (VA State) within 30 days of hire
  • • Must obtain ANSI-approved Allergen Awareness Certification (VA State) within 180 days of hire
  • • Must obtain ANSI-approved Food Protection Manager Certification (VA State) as required
  • • Prior food service experience, preferably in a healthcare setting (preferred)
  • • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
