📋 Description

• The Forward Deployed Engineer role at OpenAI partners with strategic customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems, operating at the intersection of customer delivery and core platform development.
• Day to day, you will own technical delivery across multiple deployments from prototype to stable production, build full-stack systems, embed with customer teams to understand needs and guide adoption, scope and sequence work, remove blockers, make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality, contribute directly to code when needed, codify working patterns into reusable tools and playbooks, share field feedback with Research and Product teams, and keep teams moving through clarity and follow-through.
• You will join OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team, which works closely with Product, Research, Partnerships, GRC, Security, and GTM teams to deploy frontier models in production alongside the company’s most strategic customers.
• In this role, you will learn how to bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world customer impact, gain experience in end-to-end system deployment in ambiguous environments, develop skills in cross-functional collaboration with engineering and domain experts, and contribute to shaping product and model roadmaps through eval-driven feedback and production adoption metrics.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work
• Experience scoping and delivering complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments
• Ability to write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks
• Experience building or deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understanding how model behavior affects product experience
• Strong communication skills with engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders
• Ability to simplify complexity and make fast, sound decisions under pressure
