📋 Description

• The Full Stack Engineer role on the ChatGPT Finances team at OpenAI is critical to building user-facing financial experiences that empower individuals to understand and manage their money through AI-driven interactions. This role matters because it bridges complex financial data with intuitive, trustworthy interfaces, directly impacting how users engage with their financial lives in an AI-native world.
• Day to day, the engineer will own end-to-end feature development—designing and implementing polished frontend interfaces using React/TypeScript, building secure and scalable backend services in Python, Go, or Node.js, creating resilient data integrations for financial account connectivity, and shaping APIs and data models that support personalized insights and conversational workflows. They will also establish observability, testing, and performance standards while collaborating across product, design, research, infrastructure, security, and data teams to turn ambiguous ideas into reliable production experiences.
• The ChatGPT Finances team is part of OpenAI’s mission to deploy AI safely and beneficially, focusing on making complex financial information accessible and actionable. Operating as an early-stage, high-impact product area, the team works cross-functionally to innovate at the intersection of AI, fintech, and user trust, with a strong emphasis on privacy, security, and transparency when handling sensitive financial data.
• In this role, the engineer will deepen their expertise in full-stack product development, gain hands-on experience with AI-integrated consumer applications, and learn how to balance innovation with reliability in regulated, sensitive-data domains. They will sharpen their product judgment, improve their ability to navigate ambiguity, and contribute to systems that prioritize user trust, grounding, and transparency—skills that are increasingly vital in the era of AI-powered financial tools.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building and shipping full-stack consumer products in production
• Proficiency in modern frontend stacks (React/TypeScript) and backend languages (Python, Go, Node.js, or comparable)
• Strong product judgment and ability to take features from concept to measurable outcomes
• Comfort working in ambiguous, high-impact areas where product and architecture are evolving
• Deep care for product craftsmanship, performance, accessibility, and user experience details
• Experience with secure data flows, authentication, permissions, and privacy-sensitive systems
