Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • You will own the end-to-end development of Grafana’s partner datasource plugins—integrations that connect Grafana to the world’s most popular databases, SaaS platforms, and observability tools. These plugins are installed by millions of users every month and are the critical bridge between Grafana’s visualization layer and the data sources that power real-time insights for NASA, JPMorgan Chase, eBay, and thousands of other organizations.
- • Architect, build, and maintain production-grade TypeScript/Go plugins that speak native protocols such as SQL, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and proprietary APIs. You will design for high-throughput, low-latency queries, graceful degradation, and secure credential handling across cloud and on-prem deployments.
- • Collaborate directly with external partners—think AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Snowflake, MongoDB, Datadog, and dozens of emerging vendors—to translate their roadmaps into reliable, idiomatic Grafana experiences. You will act as the technical face of Grafana Labs, leading design reviews, joint architecture sessions, and quarterly OKR planning.
- • Drive the plugin SDK and tooling forward. You will contribute upstream to Grafana’s open-source plugin platform, add new extension points, improve developer ergonomics, and ensure backward compatibility so the entire ecosystem benefits from every line of code you ship.
- • Instrument, test, and profile at scale. You will embed OpenTelemetry traces, Prometheus metrics, and synthetic load tests so that each release is proven stable under the workloads seen by the largest enterprises. You will also curate public dashboards and alerts that help users self-diagnose issues before they open support tickets.
- • Champion user experience. You will run usability studies, analyze community feedback on GitHub and Slack, and iterate on query editors, variable support, and visual configuration flows until even non-engineers can connect a new datasource in under two minutes.
- • Shape the roadmap. You will synthesize partner requirements, customer telemetry, and community pull requests into quarterly epics, write detailed RFCs, and present to Grafana Labs leadership for prioritization. Your decisions directly influence which datasources the next 20 million users will adopt.
- • Mentor and level-up the team. You will conduct code reviews, pair program with junior engineers, and lead weekly tech talks on topics like WebAssembly in plugins, progressive delivery with feature flags, and secure secret storage. Your guidance ensures the entire squad ships with confidence and craftsmanship.
- • Contribute to open-source culture. You will write blog posts, speak at GrafanaCON, and maintain sample repositories that demonstrate best practices. By sharing knowledge openly, you will attract new contributors and strengthen the gravitational pull of the Grafana ecosystem.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of production experience building full-stack applications in TypeScript/Node.js and Go, including at least one large-scale observability or data-intensive system.
- • Deep familiarity with at least three major databases or SaaS APIs (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, Elasticsearch) and the ability to read protocol or SDK documentation to implement new integrations quickly.
- • Proven track record of shipping and maintaining open-source projects or public plugins with measurable community adoption (GitHub stars, download counts, or enterprise references).
- • Comfortable working 100 % remote across US time zones; excellent asynchronous communication skills in English (written RFCs, Loom videos, GitHub issues).
- • Nice-to-have: Experience with Grafana LGTM Stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir), Kubernetes operators, or WebAssembly plugin runtimes.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote, flexible work environment with quarterly in-person summits in exciting global locations.
- • $4,000 annual equipment stipend plus $1,200 annual wellness allowance for gym, mental health, or ergonomic gear.
- • 30 days PTO, unlimited sick leave, and a 4-week paid sabbatical after four years.
- • Equity in a fast-growing open-source company valued at over $3 B, with transparent financials shared quarterly.
