đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Principal Software Engineer at Brightline Interactive Inc., you will be instrumental in shaping the technical future of our innovative platform, with a primary focus on Ruby on Rails.
  • • This role demands a leader who can not only write exceptional code but also drive technical direction, deepen our expertise in complex healthcare workflows, and elevate the engineering team's overall capabilities.
  • • You will be a key contributor to our mission of improving behavioral health for children, teens, and their families, leveraging technology to deliver high-quality care.
  • • Your responsibilities will span the entire software development lifecycle, from conceptualization and problem identification to implementation and deployment, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and user-centric.
  • • You will collaborate closely with product managers and designers to meticulously define project scope, identify the right problems to solve, and ensure that "done" truly means delivering exceptional value.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve writing code across the full stack, with a strong emphasis on Ruby and Rails for the backend, and modern frontend technologies like Turbo, Tailwind, and ViewComponent for building beautiful, interactive user interfaces.
  • • You will also contribute to our frontend architecture, potentially incorporating React where it adds significant value, and utilize Stimulus to bring dynamic elements to life.
  • • For our mobile applications, you will leverage Hotwire Native, capitalizing on existing web infrastructure to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • • TypeScript will be employed where it demonstrably benefits the project, otherwise, JavaScript will be the default for frontend development.
  • • A critical aspect of this Principal role is evaluating technical risks and making informed trade-offs. You will possess the judgment to know when to invest in foundational architecture and when to prioritize shipping the simplest, most effective solution.
  • • You will act as a technical mentor and leader, fostering growth within the engineering team through insightful architecture discussions, pair programming sessions, constructive code reviews, and by setting high standards in a collaborative, non-gatekeeping manner.
  • • Developing deep domain expertise in our specific problem space – pediatric behavioral health – is essential. This knowledge will empower you to challenge product assumptions, proactively surface potential risks, and champion the best interests of both providers and members.
  • • You will foster strong cross-functional collaboration, working seamlessly with engineering, product, design, and clinical/operations teams to ensure that all technical decisions align with and actively support our overarching business and clinical objectives.
  • • You will be responsible for architecting and implementing complex, cross-cutting systems, including data modeling, API design, clinical workflow architecture, and integration patterns, ensuring these systems are robust and scalable.
  • • You will champion best practices in software development, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence throughout the team.
  • • Your ability to articulate complex technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders will be crucial for driving consensus and alignment.
  • • You will contribute to defining and maintaining our technology standards, ensuring our codebase and ecosystem remain a joy to work with, prioritizing simplicity and maintainability.
  • • You will play a key role in evaluating and integrating AI coding tools into our development workflow, developing a nuanced understanding of their benefits and limitations to maximize productivity and code quality.
  • • This role is for someone who is passionate about solving real-world problems and is not rigidly tied to specific technologies, but rather to finding the most effective solutions.
  • • You will embody thoughtfulness and empathy in all aspects of your work, from decision-making and execution to communication and collaboration, contributing to a positive and productive team environment.
  • • You will actively seek opportunities to raise the bar for the team, not just through your individual contributions but also through your feedback and proactive efforts to improve processes and outcomes.
  • • You will thrive in a flat, self-managing team structure where influence is earned through clarity, trust, and demonstrated expertise, rather than formal authority.
  • • You will contribute to a culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring that all team members feel valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
