- • Design, build, and scale backend systems and APIs that power creator-facing and fan-facing features on Patreon’s platform.
- • Evolve existing infrastructure to improve reliability, performance, and scalability for millions of active users and creators.
- • Investigate and resolve production issues impacting user experience, prioritizing stability and seamless interaction with creator content.
- • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to define and maintain clear service contracts between backend services and client applications.
- • Partner with product managers, designers, and data scientists to translate user needs into technical solutions that enhance creator monetization and fan engagement.
- • Take ownership of features end-to-end—from concept and architecture to deployment and post-launch monitoring.
- • Step into adjacent areas of the stack, including frontend development or infrastructure, to unblock progress or improve system cohesion.
- • Balance technical trade-offs with product goals, ensuring systems are maintainable, secure, and aligned with user experience priorities.
- • Communicate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders, articulating the rationale behind architecture choices and implementation paths.
- • Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and team knowledge sharing to elevate engineering standards across the Creator World team.
- • Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming to ensure timely delivery of high-impact features.
- • Advocate for systems that empower creators with greater control, visibility, and monetization tools, in alignment with Patreon’s mission.
- • Maintain a product-centric mindset, focusing on how technical work enables creators to build sustainable businesses and connect meaningfully with their audiences.
- • Proactively identify opportunities to improve developer experience, automation, or observability within the backend ecosystem.
- • Work in a hybrid model, splitting time between in-office collaboration in New York or San Francisco (two days per week) and remote work.
- • Engage with cross-functional teams to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives and creator needs across diverse creative verticals.
- • Stay current with evolving industry practices and contribute innovative ideas to the team’s technical roadmap.
- • Support on-call rotations to ensure rapid response to critical incidents affecting creator or fan experiences.
- • Champion inclusive, collaborative engineering practices that reflect Patreon’s values of building with craft and winning together.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- • 2–3+ years of experience in software development.
- • Experience with Python or a similar programming language.
- • Proven track record of shipping backend systems and APIs that power consumer-facing features.
- • Ability to weigh technical trade-offs and explain decisions to stakeholders.
- • Product mindset focused on user outcomes, not just system implementation.
