- • Lead OpenAI’s policy engagement, strategic partnerships, and regional campaigns across high-priority APAC growth markets including Southeast Asia and other markets determined by strategic opportunity, regulatory developments, and company priorities.
- • Build and sustain senior-level relationships with ministers, regulators, senior government officials, multilateral institutions, industry leaders, universities, NGOs, and civil society organizations across APAC growth markets.
- • Design and execute multi-market campaigns and flagship partnerships that advance responsible AI adoption, strengthen OpenAI’s regional presence, and support priority policy outcomes in the Asia Pacific region.
- • Anticipate, track, and shape legislative and regulatory developments related to frontier AI, safety, privacy, competition, digital infrastructure, and economic opportunity across APAC.
- • Represent OpenAI as the senior policy and government engagement lead in senior-level meetings, international summits, conferences, and bilateral dialogues across APAC growth markets.
- • Partner closely with research, engineering, product, legal, communications, finance, and go-to-market teams to align external engagement strategies with company priorities and ensure effective cross-functional execution.
- • Identify emerging policy opportunities and risks early, develop proactive engagement plans, and ensure regional activities are tied to clear, measurable outcomes and impact.
- • Lead and develop a high-performing team across multiple APAC markets, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, creativity, and high standards in policy and government engagement.
- • Serve as OpenAI’s primary liaison to governments and institutions on AI-related policy matters, translating complex technical and geopolitical issues into clear, compelling narratives for senior stakeholders.
- • Shape regional market strategies based on evolving policy landscapes, market dynamics, and company objectives, with responsibilities refreshed regularly based on strategic opportunity and regulatory developments.
- • Navigate complex, multi-cultural stakeholder environments with political astuteness, judgment, and adaptability across diverse APAC markets and time zones.
- • Operate with execution discipline in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, balancing high-stakes external engagement with hands-on strategic planning and implementation.
- • Promote OpenAI’s mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity through responsible AI adoption and collaborative policy frameworks across APAC.
- • Maintain alignment with OpenAI’s global affairs strategy while adapting engagement approaches to local institutional contexts, cultural norms, and regulatory frameworks in APAC growth markets.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of experience in government, public policy, international affairs, corporate affairs, market development, technology policy, or related fields.
- • Significant experience working across Asia Pacific, including Southeast Asia.
- • Strong relationships with policymakers, regulators, institutions, and ecosystem leaders across relevant APAC markets.
- • Proven ability to lead high-stakes initiatives, shape external outcomes, and execute across multiple countries simultaneously.
- • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- • Strong understanding of AI-related issues, including safety, privacy, competition, digital infrastructure, and economic opportunity.
