đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the creation and execution of Substack’s product-led creator marketing narrative to position Substack as the definitive platform for independent writers, podcasters, and cultural creators.
- • Build a 0-to-1 creator marketing function from the ground up, including team structure, processes, and infrastructure, with a focus on leveraging AI to scale high-craft storytelling.
- • Identify and amplify authentic creator success stories that demonstrate the power of Substack, transforming individual wins into cultural signals that resonate across press, social media, and creator communities.
- • Own the end-to-end creator inbound funnel—from narrative development to conversion—ensuring messaging reaches the right audiences through the most effective channels and drives paid subscriptions and app adoption.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Communications, and Partnerships teams to align internal and external messaging, ensuring coherence in how Substack’s value proposition is articulated to creators.
- • Develop and manage campaigns, programs, and content initiatives that establish Substack as a persistent, authoritative voice in the cultural conversations where creators make platform decisions.
- • Define and measure success through metrics tied to creator acquisition, engagement, retention, and advocacy, ensuring every marketing effort connects story to measurable business outcomes.
- • Serve as a thought leader internally and externally, shaping how Substack’s mission and product features are understood by creators, journalists, and industry stakeholders.
- • Build and lead a small, high-performing team focused on narrative, brand identity, and creator outreach, prioritizing quality, originality, and cultural relevance over volume.
- • Partner with the Head of Partnerships and Head of Brand/Editorial to co-create initiatives that earn Substack a seat at key industry tables and cultural moments relevant to independent creators.
- • Translate product capabilities into compelling, creator-centric narratives that inspire action, emphasizing independence, ownership, and direct audience relationships over advertising-driven models.
- • Maintain deep empathy for creators’ motivations, decision-making processes, and trust signals, ensuring all marketing efforts feel authentic, respectful, and aligned with creator values.
- • Establish systems to track, analyze, and iterate on what makes a platform story compelling to creators, using data to inform narrative strategy without compromising creative integrity.
- • Champion Substack’s unique position in the AI era by highlighting how the platform enables original, human-driven content that stands apart from algorithmic noise and legacy media gatekeeping.
- • Ensure all marketing activities reflect Substack’s core belief: that culture should be shaped by creators, not by platforms optimized for engagement at the expense of quality.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience leading creator marketing, product marketing, or platform storytelling at a senior level within a media company, tech platform, or agency
- • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a function from 0-to-1, including team development and operational infrastructure
- • Deep understanding of how creators make decisions, what earns their trust, and how narrative drives conversion in independent publishing
- • Track record of connecting creative storytelling to measurable business outcomes like inbound growth, subscription conversion, and community advocacy
- • Experience working closely with product teams to shape narrative around features before launch, not just react to them post-release
- • Prior experience as a writer, journalist, or direct collaborator with creators (preferred)

- • Equity compensation for all full-time roles
