This role is crucial for shaping MUBI's future as a truly data-driven organization, driving innovation, growth, and enhancing member experiences.
  • • As the Head of Data, you will lead a multidisciplinary team comprising business intelligence, product analytics, data science, and data engineering. This team is instrumental in supporting decision-making across all departments, including finance, marketing, content, product, and growth. You will be a strategic leader, operating on a CDO track, with a proven history of scaling data operations and maturing data models and infrastructure into world-class engines for business success.
  • • Your primary mission in the first year will be to architect a fundamental transformation of our data infrastructure. This involves migrating to a modern tech stack and establishing robust capabilities for advanced AI/ML applications. You will be the driving force behind creating a unified, scalable, and efficient data ecosystem that empowers MUBI to make smarter, faster decisions.
  • • **Technical Strategy & Infrastructure Leadership:**
  • • Lead the comprehensive overhaul of our data infrastructure, encompassing robust data ingestion processes, specialized data pipelines, and the development of a self-service CSV portal for broader accessibility.
  • • Architect and implement a semantic layer specifically designed to facilitate advanced AI/ML applications, ensuring our data is primed for sophisticated analytical use cases.
  • • Oversee the migration of our Snowflake data warehouse to a code-based management system using tools like Terraform or Pulumi, enhancing governance, reproducibility, and version control.
  • • Establish a definitive 'Single Source of Truth' for all critical business data, supported by comprehensive logging, proactive alerting mechanisms, and detailed status tracking to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • • Coordinate the successful migration and drive high adoption of Omni as our primary Business Intelligence (BI) tool, empowering teams with self-service analytics capabilities.
  • • Implement advanced observability and monitoring tools to provide clear oversight of our data infrastructure, enabling efficient cost optimization and ensuring optimal service consumption.
  • • **Advanced Analytics, Modeling & Data Governance:**
  • • Centralize and refine data from third-party sources (e.g., Amazon, Apple, YouTube) and our mobile application to enable granular performance reporting and deep insights into user engagement.
  • • Guide the development and evolution of core TV and Platform Value models, critical for optimizing content investment strategies and refining our overall platform approach.
  • • Lead the deployment of predictive models in close partnership with business stakeholders (content, growth, marketing, finance), focusing on key areas such as improving member retention and accurately understanding marketing attribution.
  • • Oversee the establishment and enforcement of data governance best practices, ensuring consistent, high-quality reporting and data integrity across the entire organization.
  • • **Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership:**
  • • Develop and execute a strategic plan and roadmap to guide MUBI's transition into a truly data-driven organization, aligning data initiatives with overarching business objectives.
  • • Act as a key strategic partner to MUBI's leadership team, identifying opportunities to drive innovation and revenue growth through the effective leverage of data insights.
  • • Define the team's long-term data strategy, operational approach, and champion the pervasive use of data across all business functions.
  • • Cultivate and maintain strong collaborative relationships with a diverse range of cross-functional stakeholders, encompassing both technical and non-technical teams.
  • • **Team Empowerment & AI/ML Advancement:**
  • • Manage, mentor, and inspire a talented, multidisciplinary team of six data scientists, analysts, and data engineers, fostering their professional development and technical excellence.
  • • Cultivate a high-performance culture characterized by collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to data-driven success.
  • • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in State-of-the-Art (SOTA) Data and AI models, empowering team members to enhance their technical execution and scale the overall Machine Learning roadmap.
