Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the entire technical delivery lifecycle for ZeroRisk’s AI-powered merchant risk & compliance platform, serving global financial institutions and payment providers. You will be the single point of accountability between the CTO and every engineering execution team—internal developers, outsourced partners, and our external CloudOps provider—ensuring that ambitious product goals translate into secure, scalable, and reliable software.
- • Lead a mixed engineering force of internal senior developers and an outsourced team spread across Europe. You will run sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and retrospectives; mentor engineers on secure coding, test-driven development, and architectural best practices; and build a culture where quality and velocity rise together.
- • Contribute 60 % of your time as a hands-on engineer. Expect to write and ship production-grade Java Spring Boot micro-services, Python utilities & AWS Lambda functions, and maintain legacy PHP components. You will enforce coding standards, perform deep-dive PR reviews, and personally refactor critical paths when performance or security demand it.
- • Own the operational health of a multi-account AWS footprint (ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation). You will partner daily with our CloudOps provider to tune auto-scaling, cost controls, monitoring, alerting, and incident response. When an alert fires at 03:00, you can read the logs, trace the trace, and decide whether to roll back, hot-fix, or scale out.
- • Drive continuous delivery excellence. You will modernise CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or similar), introduce blue-green or canary deployments, and embed automated security scanning and performance regression tests so every merge feels boring and safe.
- • Champion reliability and cost optimisation. Build SLI/SLO dashboards, conduct quarterly architecture reviews, and lead game-day chaos exercises. Present a data-backed roadmap that shows how we can cut AWS spend 15 % while improving p99 latency and availability to 99.95 %.
- • Be the technical face to enterprise customers during onboarding. Translate single-tenant deployment requirements into Terraform/CloudFormation modules, security playbooks, and run-books that our CloudOps team can execute autonomously.
- • Establish engineering rituals that scale. Implement RFCs for major changes, maintain living architecture decision records (ADRs), and create a documentation culture where new hires can ship code on day three because everything is written down and discoverable.
- • Within 30 days: complete a full architecture walkthrough, shadow the CTO on every critical meeting, take over release ownership, and ship at least one improvement that makes developers or operators measurably happier.
- • Within 60 days: raise sprint predictability above 85 %, cut build time by 30 %, and lead a cross-team initiative (e.g., container hardening, secrets management, or log aggregation) that demonstrably reduces risk.
- • Within 90 days: publish a 12-month technical roadmap covering micro-service decomposition, cost optimisation, DevOps maturity, and reliability. Present metrics that show faster delivery velocity, lower incident count, and higher code coverage.
- • Foster a psychologically safe, high-performance culture. Run blameless post-mortems, celebrate experimentation, and ensure every engineer—remote or outsourced—feels connected to ZeroRisk’s mission of making global commerce safer.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years hands-on experience running secure, high-traffic web applications in AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation).
- • Proven leadership of mixed engineering teams (internal + outsourced) with demonstrable improvements in velocity, quality, and morale.
- • Production-level coding skills in Java Spring Boot and at least one of Python or PHP; ability to dive deep into legacy code and modernise it incrementally.
- • Deep understanding of secure SDLC, DevOps/SRE practices, CI/CD automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- • Excellent written and spoken English; comfortable presenting technical trade-offs to both engineers and executives.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote role with flexible European hours and only occasional travel to Dublin—work from anywhere in Europe without visa hassles.
- • Direct reporting line to the CTO with high autonomy and budget to shape the future architecture of a fast-growing, AI-driven SaaS platform.
- • Opportunity to transition into VP Engineering as the company scales, building out multiple product teams and owning a growing AWS budget.
- • Competitive compensation plus stock options in a profitable scale-up already trusted by tier-1 banks and payment networks.
