• • We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Head of Engineering, Platform to take full ownership and drive the scaling of our core Platform domain. This is a critical player-coach role where you will be instrumental in shaping the technical direction, execution, and reliability of our foundational engineering systems. You will be responsible for everything from initial architecture and roadmap development through to seamless delivery and ongoing system reliability, ensuring our platform can support our ambitious growth and mission.
• • Your primary focus will be on achieving step-function performance improvements across our AI workflows, with a target of reducing latency by over 50%. This will involve deep dives into system architecture, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and speed. You will also be tasked with building robust observability, metrics, and model-selection systems that are designed to withstand and perform under significant scale.
• • A key aspect of this role is establishing and refining engineering rituals and processes that foster a high-performing, shipping-focused culture. This includes owning and optimizing our backlog management using tools like Linear, ensuring effective stand-ups, and facilitating seamless cross-functional coordination with product, research, and other engineering teams. You will be the bridge between high-level product goals and clear, actionable technical plans, translating vision into reality with well-defined timelines and unblocked teams.
• • You will champion continuous quality pipelines, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and unwavering reliability of every output generated by our AI systems. This commitment to quality extends to upholding a high engineering bar across the entire technology stack, encompassing rigorous code quality standards, effective code reviews, a well-managed on-call rotation, and a strong sense of operational rigor. Your leadership will set the standard for engineering excellence within the Platform domain.
• • This role demands a leader who thrives in ambiguity and can transform incomplete direction into clear, executable technical plans that lead to shipped products, all without relying on heavy, bureaucratic processes. You will need to demonstrate a strong bias for leverage and simplicity, building durable solutions while possessing a sharp instinct for knowing when to optimize and when to prioritize rapid delivery. As a player-coach, you will remain hands-on with coding, actively contributing to the codebase and mentoring engineers, rather than solely focusing on management tasks.
• • In your first 90 days, you will be expected to fully assume ownership of the Platform engineering domain, establish comprehensive observability and alerting for core workflows, and define the key performance, reliability, and quality metrics for the domain. You will also identify and deliver at least one high-impact improvement, and crucially, establish a clear execution cadence, set priorities, and instill high quality standards across the team.
