đź“‹ Description
- • Lead and inspire a large, high-performing field operations team across the North of the UK to deliver exceptional customer experiences through the installation of low-carbon technologies such as smart meters, EV chargers, solar panels, home batteries, and low-carbon heating systems, directly contributing to Octopus Energy’s mission of accelerating the UK’s transition to greener, cheaper energy.
- • Own end-to-end delivery of field operations in your region, including workforce planning, scheduling, quality assurance, health and safety compliance, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring operational excellence at scale while adapting to rapidly growing demand in one of the UK’s fastest-expanding green energy sectors.
- • Drive strategic initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance first-time fix rates, and elevate customer satisfaction scores by analysing operational data, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing process innovations that align with Octopus Energy’s customer-centric and sustainability-focused values.
- • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning by coaching team leaders and technicians, recognising high performance, addressing development needs, and promoting psychological safety so that every team member feels empowered to contribute ideas and take ownership of their work.
- • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, customer service, and supply chain to ensure seamless handoffs, accurate forecasting, and alignment between field capabilities and product rollouts, particularly for emerging technologies like heat pumps and home energy storage systems.
- • Represent Octopus Energy in regional stakeholder engagements, including local authorities, housing associations, and installer networks, to build partnerships that support scalable deployment of low-carbon solutions and reinforce the company’s reputation as a trusted leader in the green energy transition.
- • Champion health, safety, and environmental (HSE) excellence by ensuring all field activities comply with relevant regulations (e.g., Gas Safe, electrical standards, working at height), conducting regular audits, investigating incidents, and embedding a zero-harm mindset across all operations.
- • Use data-driven insights to forecast resource needs, optimise technician utilisation, and predict demand fluctuations, enabling proactive scaling of the field workforce in response to seasonal trends, government incentives, and customer adoption patterns.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience leading large, geographically dispersed field operations teams (50+ FTE) in utilities, telecommunications, home services, or related infrastructure sectors, with a track record of improving performance, quality, and safety at scale.
- • Strong background in managing end-to-end delivery of technical installations (e.g., smart meters, EV charging, HVAC, solar, or battery systems) with deep understanding of associated compliance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic goals into operational plans, using data and KPIs (e.g., first-time fix rate, customer NPS, cost per install, schedule adherence) to drive continuous improvement and measurable outcomes.
- • Excellent people leadership skills, including experience coaching and developing frontline supervisors and technicians, fostering high engagement, and building inclusive, high-trust team cultures.
- • Strong stakeholder management capabilities, with experience influencing internal partners (product, engineering, customer service) and external entities (local authorities, housing bodies, trade partners) to align on delivery priorities.
- • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence, with familiarity with UK HSE regulations relevant to field work (e.g., CDM, PUWER, LOLER, Gas Safe Register) and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary package with performance-linked bonus reflecting Octopus Energy’s commitment to rewarding impact and innovation in driving the green energy transition.
- • Comprehensive private medical insurance, dental coverage, and access to an employee assistance programme supporting physical and mental wellbeing.

- • Enhanced parental leave policies, including paid leave for all parents and carers, reflecting Octopus Energy’s family-friendly and inclusive workplace values.
- • Access to Octopus Energy’s internal learning and development platform, including leadership training, technical upskilling in renewable technologies, and opportunities to gain certifications relevant to field operations and sustainability.
- • Employee equity scheme allowing staff to share in the company’s long-term success as it scales globally in the renewable energy sector.
- • Fully remote role based in the UK with flexibility to work from home, supported by regular regional team meet-ups and access to co-working spaces as needed.
