Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the entire finance operations engine at Standinsurance—from daily cash-flow tracking to multi-year strategic forecasting—so every department has the real-time numbers they need to move fast and stay compliant.
- • Build and maintain a living, three-statement financial model that links premium growth, loss ratios, reinsurance costs, and operating burn to give the CEO and Board a single source of truth for capital planning and investor updates.
- • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes across our captive insurer, reciprocal exchange, and corporate holding entities, ensuring US-GAAP and statutory accuracy while shaving days off each cycle through automation and clear process ownership.
- • Design and enforce expense-control workflows that turn every software subscription, vendor contract, and marketing campaign into a budgeted, approved, and auditable line item—driving a culture of capital discipline without slowing innovation.
- • Manage external audit, tax, and regulatory relationships, preparing flawless work-papers and statutory filings (NAIC, CA DOI, IRS, Delaware Franchise Tax) so reinsurers and rating agencies see a spotless record when they diligence Stand.
- • Partner with Underwriting, Product, and Engineering to translate loss-ratio trends, pricing experiments, and tech infrastructure costs into actionable P&L levers—helping teams decide which features to ship, which perils to underwrite, and where to reinsure.
- • Stand up scalable systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Adaptive, or similar) that can grow from Series B to IPO, including chart-of-accounts design, policy-level data feeds, and automated board-reporting dashboards that refresh nightly.
- • Own cash management and banking across multiple entities, optimizing sweep accounts, premium trust funds, and collateral postings so every dollar is either earning yield or backing risk—never sitting idle.
- • Build and mentor a lean, high-performing finance team—controller, FP&A analyst, and staff accountant—setting clear KPIs, career paths, and cross-training plans that future-proof the function as policy count scales 10×.
- • Translate complex insurance economics (ceding commissions, sliding-scale reinsurance, surplus notes) into concise narratives for investors, reinsurers, and regulators, ensuring Stand’s capital strategy is always backed by bulletproof numbers.
- • Drive annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecast cycles with zero-based rigor, forcing every team to justify spend against climate-impact and revenue milestones—turning finance into a strategic weapon rather than a back-office cost center.
- • Serve as the financial conscience of the company, stress-testing growth scenarios against regulatory capital requirements and rating-agency metrics so Stand can scale aggressively without ever risking solvency or reputation.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of progressive finance leadership inside an MGA, carrier, reciprocal, reinsurer, or high-growth insurtech with direct P&L ownership
- • Deep US-GAAP and statutory insurance accounting expertise (SAP, NAIC statements, Schedule F, and insurance tax nuances)
- • Proven track record building three-statement models, board packs, and investor decks that raised equity, debt, or reinsurance capacity
- • Hands-on experience with ERP and FP&A systems (NetSuite, Adaptive, Anaplan, or equivalent) and the ability to implement them from scratch
- • Controller-level rigor—can personally close the books, manage audits, and file regulatory returns—combined with strategic finance acumen
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary of $175k–$225k plus meaningful equity in a pre-Series C climate-tech leader
- • Comprehensive above-market health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents
- • Flexible time-off policy and weekly lunch stipend to keep you fueled and balanced
- • 401(k) plan with immediate eligibility and company match to build long-term wealth
