📋 Description

• As Head of Legal at LiveKit, you will serve as the first in-house legal function for a fast-growing developer platform powering voice AI applications for major enterprises, enabling the business to move faster by providing practical legal guidance rather than acting as a gatekeeper.
• You will own commercial contracting end to end, build privacy and data-protection programs for real-time voice and media data, partner with Sales, Finance, Product, and Engineering to close deals and ship products safely, manage corporate governance and equity matters, set strategy on open-source licensing and AI governance, and manage outside counsel efficiently.
• LiveKit is building the infrastructure layer for the voice-driven era of computing, powering billions of calls annually for customers like OpenAI, xAI, Salesforce, Coursera, and Spotify, with a culture that values craft, creativity, and shipping fast.
• You will have the opportunity to build legal playbooks from scratch, shape the company’s legal posture on emerging issues like AI governance and telecom regulation, and grow alongside a senior team that values technical curiosity and practical problem-solving.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience as the first or one of the first in-house lawyers at a high-growth tech company, or as a senior commercial counsel ready to own a legal function
• Deep commercial-contracts experience with enterprise, usage-based, and data-heavy agreements, including the ability to assess and act on risk quickly
• Fluency in privacy and data protection regulations including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and ideally HIPAA
• Builder and operator mindset — comfortable working independently, creating playbooks, and enabling business velocity with practical legal solutions
